The car had noticeable damage that wasn't shown in the pictures and I've had to take it to the dealership twice for other issues in the last 3 weeks. More
This is the 4th vehicle we have purchased through CarMax, and our experience has always been very quick, pleasurable, and seamless, with the exception of this time. We had our vehicle shipped from another location (which we have done before), and while the amount of time it took to arrive at the Albuquerque location was what we expected, the dealership took an abnormal amount of time to process and inspect the car once there. Communication on their end was poor and we received different explanations regarding the nature of the delay every time we called for an update. Even when we were told the car was ready to be test drove and we scheduled an appointment, we had to wait over 30 minutes past our appointment time because the car was in fact, not ready. When we were ready to purchase, we opted for the rapid checkout, where we submit all documents prior to arrival and the car “should” be ready for immediate pickup at the scheduled time. It again was not ready and we had to wait, which defeats the purpose of opting for the rapid pickup. Lastly, The sales rep we worked with was also not very personable. She never introduced herself to me or my husband and never referred to us by our names. We like buying vehicles from CarMax because the pricing and purchase process is fair and straightforward and the sales people don’t hassle or pressure us. However our last experience was disappointing and frustrating and has made us reconsider whether or not we will purchase vehicles from them in the future. More

There was no clear backup plan when my assigned representative was unavailable, which meant I had to proactively request assistance from another staff member just to keep the process moving. The most concerning part of my experience was during the financing discussion. The associate confidently told me my payment calculations were incorrect and stated he had just worked a similar deal with my bank, implying I didn’t understand the process. The tone came across as dismissive and condescending. A supervisor was brought in, and while I appreciated her involvement, I made it clear the issue wasn’t escalation—it was that the associate needed better understanding and communication. After contacting the bank directly, it was confirmed that my understanding was correct, and the information I had been given by the associate was inaccurate. Unfortunately, there was no acknowledgment or accountability for that mistake. I’ve purchased vehicles from other dealerships and, despite the typical challenges, have had more respectful and efficient experiences than this. I expected CarMax’s “no-hassle” approach to be smoother and more customer-focused, but the lack of communication, accountability, and professionalism made this process frustrating. More

Started my experience online by shopping the entire nation for a truck. When the right one was found, I had it shipped to the ABQ. dealership.
