Originally I took it to a repair shop that had done work on a Saab I used to have, they said that it seemed to need the CEM reprogrammed and that Volvo had a lock on reprogramming computers. So, I made an appointment with Dick Dyer being told it would take about 2 hours. After sitting in their waiting room for 2 hours Richard Stevens told me it was a bad wire somewhere and would take approximately 3 hours and 3 hundred and some odd dollars. Richard called me later and said that the CEM needed to be replaced and that it would cost $1566. Long story short, they had to order the part and I should have my car back the following Tuesday. Tuesday came and went so I called Richard and he said the car was ready to be picked up. I headed to the dealership from Irmo. When I got approximately 2 miles from dealership I received a call from Richard telling me that the wipers were not actually fixed. He then asked me if I would be willing to leave the car there until Monday when the shop foreman would return from vacation assuring me that he would be able to resolve the issue with it so I left it with them. Sure enough I get a call from Mr. Stevens late Monday that my was finally ready and would cost the original $1566. I asked him at that point, since they had installed a CEM and the wipers continued to malfunction if when the shop foreman found the issue if they had at least tried using my old CEM and he said that it was “fried”. I didn’t believe that then and I really don’t believe it now. It was at this time that I informed him that just months earlier, I had lost my home and about 90% of everything I owned in the October 2015 flood. In retrospect I concluded that people who just want your money are more or less callous to such circumstances. Still and all, I picked up the car and gave them a check for the $1566. Believe it or not, I got about 3 miles from the dealership and out of the blue my wipers came on all by themselves. I immediately pulled into a parking lot and phoned Richard leaving a message that the wipers were not at all fixed. This happened around midday so I thought that he may be at lunch, however he never returned my call. The next morning as I was leaving home I turned on my wipers just to see what would happen and nothing did. At that point I became pretty darn sure that a CEM was not the problem at all since I had a new one and I still had the original problem. I thought the about asking Dick Dyer to refund my money but somehow never thought they would. So I took the only option I believed to be in my best interest and I went to my credit union and put a stop payment on the check. Later that day when I was leaving work the wipers came on again without being turned on. This time so furiously that one of the wiper blades was slung completely off the car. When they finally came to a halt I removed the fuse, put it in the glove box where it remains to this day. That confirmed at least for me, I had done the right thing. So the next morning when I called Richard to tell him that I had stopped payment on the check. About 3 days later, on Saturday morning I searched the Dick Dyer website and found that Hunt Dyer was the company’s President. After finding his email address I sent him an email explaining the ordeal in its entirety and also apologizing for what I believed was the only outcome. Over the next couple of weeks expecting a response from Mr. Dyer, one never came. Instead I found a voice message from A. J. Peeples that was about a week old threatening in a harsh tone to turn my check over to the solicitor because what I had done was a criminal act. My first thought was “good lord where did these people learn this customer service philosophy”. However I sent Mr. Peeples an email to inform him that I had previously emailed Mr. Dyer and forwarded the email to him. So now I have informed 3 people with Dick Dyer that their attempts to repair my windshield wipers have failed. During this time my wife and I were working with an attorney dealing with legal issues from the loss of our home. I explained the stopped check issue with the attorney and they confirmed that I had done nothing illegal. Imagine how shocked I was the day after Thanksgiving when I received a registered letter from the solicitor’s office that I was facing a warrant for my arrest if I didn’t pay not only the $1566 but service fees as well, all totaling $1785.11. Still, in all this time not one single soul from Dick Dyer made any attempt what so ever to find a way to fix my car. If Dick Dyer and Associates has not acted in a most despicable way, then dictionary.com needs to change their definition of “despicable”. Time after time for about a week I continued to call the solicitor’s office. Always getting a voice message and always leaving a message and never got a return call. So why does the solicitor’s office bother putting a phone number on their letterheads if they are not going to answer phones or return calls? Realizing I was beating my head up against a wall, I contacted an attorney that my brother referred. It took him a while but finally spoke to the person in the solicitor’s office that sent the letter. He told them about the car not being repaired and asked them about dropping the arrest warrant. He was told that only Dick Dyer and Associates could do that. He then contacted the dealership and spoke with John Madison, we believe to be the service supervisor, and appealed to him to drop the issue since car had not been fixed. He rejected any consideration to do so. Which made me ask myself again; “How in the world did this company adopt such an outrageous customer service philosophy”? The end result was that my lawyer told me that if I wanted to avoid being arrested that I would have to pay the solicitor’s office for the check, but that he would work with Dick Dyer and Associates to set an appointment to try again to fix the wipers. So on December 28th 2016 I went to the solicitor’s office and paid $1785.11 to the same person that sent the letter. While there I ventured to ask this question; “how is it that if it is not against the in South Carolina to stop payment on a check that I am facing a warrant for my arrest”? I received this simple answer; “I don’t know”. I was completely bumfuzzled. How in the world did malfunctioning windshield wipers come to this? So here I am well over a month later waiting for that appointment. The attorney has made a halfhearted attempt to garner one. Still and all there are 4 people that I know of that has knowledge that I paid them to do a repair job that they failed to do. At least 2 of those were directly involved in an attempt to have me arrested. Needless to say but right now I feel as though I am surrounded by incompetent professionals and a corrupt auto dealership. All things considered I don’t really trust Dick Dyer and Associates to touch my car again. I don’t trust them to be honest and forthright with me and I certainly don’t trust them to give me a refund for their failure to repair my windshield wipers. Needless to say I certainly don’t trust that they would ever offer up an apology for the crap they introduced to my life this year or trying to have me arrested for their short comings. The most I can hope for by writing this is to get it out of my system and to final, once and for all, get beyond it. One added benefit is that this is Volvo number 6 for me and I can definitely say that it will be the last. More

Extremely expensive service!! Expensive and you should shop around. The 1 and a half hour drive is worth the money you will save going elsewhere. Good luck and save your money. I think I blew a fuse or relay when I put the battery back in and just wanted to ask where it is located at like I have done dozens of times at many garges. I called Richard at what is suppose to be the service department & asked to speak to the shop foreman Richard told me that they do not do that. I called & asked to speak to Richard's supervisor and again asked to speak to the shop foreman hoping Richard, was miss informed and again I was told Dick Dyer-Benz and Volvo does not do that. I am the president of a small corporation and have some mechanical ability. I believe in true customer service and people skills. If you too believe in true customer service over machines I would go somewhere else President D.C. Dills !!! More

Disappointing experience, poor service Overall, greatly disappointed. An error message and check engine showed on my 2005 Volvo. Thinking I would get the most accurate diagnosis and bes Overall, greatly disappointed. An error message and check engine showed on my 2005 Volvo. Thinking I would get the most accurate diagnosis and best treatment, I chose to contact the local Volvo dealer. I had heard good things about Dick Dyer so I was looking forward to it. After calling the out-of-town number (866 area code) and speaking with 4 different people, I was finally given the opportunity to schedule an appointment, which I was told “would take 40 minutes usually, an hour maximum”. The person I spoke with said my model did not exist the in 2005 (which it did…) and said I was obviously mistaken. I was also advised to not change the transmission fluid because “Volvos ATF is made to last forever”. I just agreed made the appointment. I arrived at the dealership 5 minutes before my appointment time and spoke with the Volvo Service manager Richard Stevens. I was surprised to hear him say it would cost $120 to read the Volvo error message. Even more shocked to hear it would be $120 additional to read the Check Engine codes. He said the OBD I/II readers at chain auto stores weren’t as accurate (“not bullseye accurate” is still on the dart board) but I don’t understand how plugging in a machine to my vehicle can cost that much, not matter how fancy the equipment is. I asked for them just read the error message and checked with him again that it should just take less than an hour. The customer waiting area with free wifi and snacks was nice. Perhaps the only positive thing I can say about my experience. I had to enjoy it after waiting 2.5 hours for my car to come back out. I was told, as absurd as it sounds, that they couldn’t find a problem and my only two options were to have them flush the transmission fluid for $653 or replace the transmission for $7000. I was shocked. I can flush the fluid myself for $70 plus an hour of work (which I did this past weekend). On top of that, they still didn't clear the error message from the car. I spoke with Mr. Stevens in his office after and explained my frustrations. He said that location was more focused on Mercedes-Benz than Volvo, two new hires were making the appointments (therefore no credibility of what is said), and basically tough luck. Richard Stevens seemed like a likeable and nice guy but I still paid $120 for a diagnosis that diagnosed nothing, made outlandish suggestions, and wasted my time. I’m disappointed with Dick Dyer and Volvo. I will avoid this location and Volvo vehicles from now on. EDIT (Early June): John Madison claims to be trying to contact me to resolve this. I have called Dick Dyer and emailed him several times (called 6x and left voicemail plus 2 emails) and I have gotten no response. EDIT ( Early July): John Madison has still not gotten in touch with me. His attempts to "rectify" the situation have fallen very short. He has called twice, while I have called 24 times and left voicemails several. They don't seem to be interested in taking care of the customer. More
Decreased Service I generally brag about the service technicians and management at this location. Although my family and I have relocated twice in the past six years, I generally brag about the service technicians and management at this location. Although my family and I have relocated twice in the past six years, while on duty in the area or summer vacation in SC, I would still get my car serviced here. I guess the organization has experienced some turnover within the last year because I've noticed some new faces, but that definitely should be the reason for poor customer service. This is the first time ever that I'm unsatisfied with the service. My car has been sitting on site since it was towed in Friday evening, and no one has even attempted to look at my vehicle to provide me with any resolution. I've had to contact the service department three times to inquire about my vehicle, and each time I was told the same information (no one knew why my car was towed in, and the technicians were waiting on me to inform them of the issues, although I explained what was wrong with the car in my previous calls). One day has gone by since speaking with the service manager, and I still haven't received a status update concerning my car. My patience is being tested, so tomorrow I'll be speaking with the owner. Please if your in Columbia, SC and need to get your Mercedes or Volvo serviced, do yourself a favor and steer away from this place. More

When being asked how I would rate Dick Dyer and Asso. , I would have to start with the fact that we have been customers since 1969. That in itself should tell you something. Everyone of our cars have either would have to start with the fact that we have been customers since 1969. That in itself should tell you something. Everyone of our cars have either been purchased or leased through The Dyer Team. We have a Volvo, and two Mercedes. My husband has an E-Class, and I drive an S550. We could not be happier. We have gone through three generations of Dyers in our car buying experiences. Every employee there is extremely professional. From the showroom floor to the service bay, down to the body repair shop, everyone goes the extra mile to make sure that everything is being done to assure your satisfaction. I absolutely love my S series, and I know so much about it due to Hunt Dyer being so on top of the sale. He delivered the car to my house, and gave me a very in depth tutorial on how to use all of the bells and whistles that automobile has. And, it has plenty! If I ever have any questions, no one acts as if it is a problem to answer my question, or find the answer for me from someone who does know the answer. In closing, I would have to give Dick Dyer and Associates a 10 on a scale of 1-10. If there are any more questions, please do not hesitate to ask. 803-782-8804, or at Necie3@aol.com Thank you, Denise B. Howard More
