Since 1952, J.H. Barkau & Sons has served the Northern Illinois, Southern Wisconsin stateline area for their automotive needs. We can proudly boast to over 70,000 customers in those years and have had thousands of customers purchase multiple vehicles and generations of families that have allowed us to serve them.
When John H. Barkau founded the business, his goal was to bring quality, affordable transportation to the local area. Jim (2nd generation), Rick (3rd generation), and Willie (3rd generation) Barkau have continued in that tradition while expanding our marketplace to be worldwide. We have had vehicles shipped to Russia, Sweden, Australia, Turkey, Mexico and many other locations. We have vehicles purchased by customers in 49 states and commonly have customers fly in to pick up their new vehicles. In all of this, it has been a pleasure for the Barkau family to help fulfill the transportation needs of a varied clientele.
J.H. Barkau & Sons has accomplished this feat by continuing to offer quality, hand-picked vehicles at very competitive prices. We believe in offering our customers an incredible selection that is second to none, with over 1100 vehicles available for purchase. We believe in a no pressure sales environment and in quality reconditioning of our inventory selection. Our sales teams at our Cedarville and Freeport stores each have over a century of experience in helping fill the needs of our vast customer base. The funny part is, we remember a lot of you years later and we are genuinely happy to see you.
But selling cars is not all that we do. We believe in supporting the local community through donations, Toy Drives, Food Drives and many other local charities and fundraisers. We also run the “Excellerate” program for Aquin Catholic Schools and have facilitated over 113 donated vehicles. Yes, I would recommend them. I appreciate the selection Barkau offers it's customers and Nils was very patient with me as I am not fast at making a decision when buying a car. I think the price was fair although less is always better:) I have purchased cars there before and they have been really good about correcting issues discovered after the sale. My last car (2004 Buick Lesabre) had a heated seat that did not work and they found a used replacement and installed it without charge. I am very happy with my recently purchased Lucerne but noticed a noise in the heater/defrost motor. I called Nils and he said to get it in an dlet them have a look, which I will do as soon as my schedule allows. Thanks for a good car buying experience! More

The only thing we noticed was the tires had flat spots. Otherwise the car was in excellent shape. Both men were very willing to work with us, and very friendly and it was a very good experience. My third purchase from this Dealer. Nils, Is great to work with we bought our last car with him and it last 12 1/2 years it was a great car. We went with him again as he is honest and low pressure. He is helpful and we trust him. My parents had told me about this dealership when they were buy their vehical from the company, so I went on their website and went looking for cars in my price range. I found a car that I really liked a were buy their vehical from the company, so I went on their website and went looking for cars in my price range. I found a car that I really liked and talked my father into coming with me to look at the car. I arrived at the dealership and right away was welcomed by Tim. He showed us the car and gave us some information about it and my father and I went on a test drive. I came back loving the car and we started the paperwork. Tim was very helpful throughout the entire process and made my car buy experience great. I couldn't have picked a better dealership. More

The process was quick and much easier than expected. Tim was very knowledgable about the vehicles. It would have been nice to disclose that the 4x4 transfer case had a crack (discovered a week and a half l was very knowledgable about the vehicles.
