I came to Leo Payne with a pre-approval letter from my local credit union, which is part of their dealership network. My bank made it clear: all I needed to do was bring the letter, and the dealership would process the application without running a new credit check—since the bank had already done that. Unfortunately, Leo Payne completely disregarded this. They collected all my personal information under the pretense of “verifying it against the bank’s records,” only to attempt pulling my credit report anyway. Thankfully, I had frozen my credit, so they couldn’t access it. But that’s when the real issue began. After spending over an hour reviewing paperwork, the manager suddenly told me I needed to unfreeze my credit report. This was not only unnecessary—per my bank—but also a blatant contradiction of what I had been told earlier by the dealership staff. It became clear that the only reason they wanted to run my credit was to potentially offer counter-financing options, not to help process my bank’s approval. What’s most frustrating is the dishonesty. I was explicitly told they wouldn’t run a credit check. That turned out to be false. I had to walk out after wasting my time and energy. If you’re bringing your own financing, be extremely cautious. This dealership does not respect transparency or customer trust.
