I had done prior research on the problem and found that there was somewhat of an epidemic problem with these transmissions which were subcontracted to a Japanese firm from Volvo.
The 1st visit was to have a updated software download done as recommended by a few "gurus" on the internet. That did not solve the problem. I wanted to find out specifically what was causing the transmission to slip and shift erratically. I was told that it would need to be diagonsed and the cost would be $98.00. I had this done, but it was inconclusive. The technician said that there was an internal fault, but he could not specifically tell me what it was. This is about what I knew prior to paying the $98.00. He said that the transmission would need to be replaced at the charge would be in excess of $4000.00. I was less than happy about his recommendation. I did more research and found that Brannon Tranmissions in Loganville, Ga specialized in repairing the issues with these transmissions. I took the car to Brannons's where he replaced the valve body and a few other parts for $644.00. Now the transmission works perfectly. I asked for my $98.00 to be refunded and the dealership refused. Mr, Brannon test drove the car and told me exactly what the problem was and the cost to fix it-$644.00. It is apparent that Northpoint Volvo lacks qualified transmission techs. It is apparent that Northpoint Volvo is concerned only about their profitability and not their Volvo driving customers.
