Sunset Ford responded

Grant, thank you for your feedback, and we genuinely regret any confusion or frustration you may have experienced during your visit with us. We want to address the points raised in your review and provide some clarity on the situation. First, regarding the warranty on the oil cooler: The part was originally replaced in October 2022, and under Ford’s warranty guidelines, the warranty on the oil cooler is 2 years, unlimited miles. When it was replaced again in September 2024, it was fully covered, as it was within the 2-year service part warranty from the original replacement. However, for your August 2025 visit, the service part warranty applies to the original replacement date (October 2022), not the most recent installation. As such, the warranty had already expired in October 2024, and we are unable to offer additional coverage for that visit. Additionally, you mentioned in your review that someone had written on the paperwork stating a 2-year warranty. We’d like to clarify that the printed warranty policy—which you signed at the time of service—clearly outlined the coverage terms. We also have a scanned copy of this signed document on file for reference, and it aligns with Ford’s official guidelines, which states all applicable warranty coverage as well as Sunset's Recheck Policy of 60 days/3,000 miles whichever occurs first. We take our commitment to transparency and honesty seriously, and we want to ensure there is no misunderstanding. If there’s anything unclear or if you’d like to review the signed document with us, we’re more than happy to provide that information and discuss it further. Thank you for your understanding. Grant, Jennifer has answered your concerns just as precisely as we would, so there is not any additional information regarding warranty that we would be able to provide. We stand with Ford and believe their parts are absolutely better than aftermarket components. We think it is important to know that there are known issues with the 6.4L engine, and that can easily be found by doing a quick Google search. Through much discussion back and forth from your diagnosis and reviews you have provided us, our technician staff agrees that there is more than likely an underlying issue that is causing the oil cooler to fail, it’s not just the cooler itself. We agree with you on that – that the cooler doesn’t just fail after 3,000 miles of use – something caused the oil cooler to fail which means the part wouldn’t be warranty anyway even if still covered. The truck would still need an oil cooler, but it probably needs something else that’s causing the cooler to fail. The primary issue with the 6.4L diesel oil cooler in a 2008 Ford F-350 is its tendency to clog due to debris in the cooling system, which restricts coolant flow, leading to overheated oil and potential engine de-rating or damage. The causes of clogging include casting sand from the engine block, poor coolant maintenance, or a bad coolant mixture. Symptoms include a check engine light, loss of power, and a significant temperature split between engine oil and coolant. Diagnosis involves checking for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), inspecting the block for contamination, and a thorough cooling system flush with a product like Motorcraft VC9. Furthermore, it would need to be removed and checked to see if the passageways still flow or if they are clogged. More than likely rust, block casting, or something else in the oil cooling system has caused a blockage, causing the oil cooler to fail. There is surely more going on than just a bad oil cooler at this point. A common preventative measure during the repair is to not only replace the oil cooler, but to also install an aftermarket coolant filter to catch debris before it reaches the oil cooler. Sorry your truck is giving you these issues, but once you do some online research about this issue you should see that it’s very common, and it’s typically not from the cooler failing – and not from our technicians installing the oil cooler – they simply bolt in place. Hope this gives you some better insight to what’s going on. Part warranty from Ford is in the hands or laws of Ford, can’t help there, but hopefully this information sheds light on why the cooler probably keeps failing. Something is going on in the engine block coolant passages. Justin & Pete H.

You do not take your commitment to transparency and honesty seriously or you would stand behind your service department. If they can't put an oil cooler on and make it last longer than 3000 miles. They have no business working on anything. Your own service rep. Saud and wrote on the paper work 2years parts and labor. Very sad and disappointing i sincerely pray you guys stop this practice of of dishonesty.

Justin-Pete H your service department is the worst bottom line you guys put an oil cooler in my and it didn't even last 3000 miles everything else is a bunch of crap. One of 3 things happened either your service department is severely incompetent or genuine ford parts aren't worth the box they come in or and the most disturbing is they never changed the part and you guys just kicked the can down the road till your supposed warranty ran out if that was the case congratulations you just screwed over a hard working family and set them back years congrats you should be very proud of yourselves. Feel free to call me and discuss this further. But i really don't see that happening just another useless comment about how much you would like to resolve this

Justn & Pete H. I just wish you guys would have told me your service department could not diagnose fix the truck properly from the beginning. Then may maybe i could have taken it to somebody that knew how to fix it from the start and stand behind there work for more than sorry less than 3000 miles. It would have been nice if you would have a sign out that said you are unable to repair ford properly. Now I just have an expensive yard ornament thank you for that. I will say it again if I would have got that truck back and it would have worked great I might have told one or two people but when you screw someone over they tell everybody. Please next time just tell the person your service department can't handle the job instead of all that cra p you just said. And if I could give another piece of advice don't use me for a reference.

Grant, we can diagnose anything, fix anything, or replace any part, but every customer must authorize and pay for those services. You have been asking us to do it for free - which we do not offer for any guest. The vehicle was not purchased here, and it does not get serviced regularly here with us, it is 17 years old, it's out of warranty, and so we have no other ways to assist you. We have provided you with all the information you need to make an informative decision on your vehicle and what may be causing the underlying issue. Thank you.

Justin & Pete H Just because I didn't buy the truck from you or have it regularly serviced there is no reason for you to not fix it right the first time that is extremely poor businesses practice. I have never once asked you to fix it for free. All i asked was that you fix right and stand behind your work and and show a little pride in your work. Believe i don't want you to fix the next time because apparently your service department can't. If and when i can ever afford to buy the parts and get it fixed it will be at a place knows how and stands behind there work. But until then at least i have a nice yard ornament. And one good thing i have a truck that is 6 years older than that with alot more miles and it still works just fine. The only difference its never been up there.
