I recently took my truck to Roundtree Moore after my dash showed a DEF warning. I purchased my own scanner, which indicated that the DEF heater had failed. When I researched the issue, I saw that some vehicl showed a DEF warning. I purchased my own scanner, which indicated that the DEF heater had failed. When I researched the issue, I saw that some vehicles have had recalls or extended coverage for DEF heater problems. I called the dealership and was told that if it was a recall issue, it would not cost me anything. I brought the truck in and explained exactly what my scanner showed. I was told they would check it out and let me know before doing anything. A few hours later, I received a call confirming that the DEF heater was out — the same issue my scanner had already identified — and was quoted approximately $1,180 plus labor to replace it. I was also informed that my truck had gone into limp mode. When I declined the repair, I was told I owed $238 just for them confirming the DEF heater was out. I was also told it would cost an additional two hours of labor to force a regeneration to get it out of limp mode — something my own scanner is capable of doing. I understand dealerships charge diagnostic fees, but it is frustrating to be told beforehand that it may not cost anything if related to recall, then be charged nearly $250 to confirm what was already diagnosed. The total repair estimate being well over $1,000 plus labor only added to that frustration. I believe customers deserve transparency and clear communication upfront about diagnostic costs and potential coverage before work begins. Unfortunately, this experience did not leave me feeling confident or valued as a customer. That is my honest experience. More
