Seller's Comments
Lincoln's own 1979 brochure described the Collectors Series as created to epitomize and commemorate this elegant era of the traditional Lincoln, and they meant every word of it. The Collectors Series was built specifically as the final statement for the massive Mark V before Lincoln was forced to downsize everything for 1980. Only 6,262 were ever produced, and white was one of only two primary colors offered, making this example one of the most correct and desirable configurations of the entire run. The gold accents, chrome trim, vinyl top, flip-up headlights, and moonroof are all present and correct, and the car retains the original owner plaque on the instrument panel engraved with the name Kenneth L. Cleveland and dated October 25th, 1978, the day he took delivery. That kind of personal history does not come with most cars. Under the hood is the 400 cubic inch V8 backed by the C6 three speed automatic. The 400 moved this enormous car with the kind of quiet, effortless authority that Lincoln buyers expected, and it does the same today. The air conditioning has been converted to a modern refrigerant system so it works the way it should in summer heat, and new tires mean the car is ready to drive from day one. Inside, Lincoln wrapped the seats, interior garnish moldings, and sunvisors in Khasmin II luxury cloth, an automotive fabric of the highest quality available at the time, and used Harvard cloth for the headliner instead of vinyl, giving the Collectors Series a level of interior refinement that set it apart from every other Lincoln built that year. The blue cloth interior is clean and well preserved, with wood interior trim throughout and gold accents carrying the exterior theme inside. Power everything is present and working, and the car has been mostly garaged throughout its life, which shows in the condition of both the body and the interior. New paint and no rust round out a car that presents beautifully from every angle. The Mark V represented the apex of Lincoln's engineering and luxury, and everything that came after it was shaped by downsizing mandates, badge engineering, and shifting buying habits. There would never again be an American luxury coupe with this kind of presence and unapologetic scale. A white Collectors Series with the original owner plaque, no rust, fresh paint, and a documented history is exactly the kind of car that the people who understand what the Mark V was are looking for.
