It was available with multiple engine options, most commonly a 3.7-liter Magnum V6 producing about 210 horsepower and 235 lb-ft of torque or an available 4.7-liter V8 producing around 230 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Both engines were paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed automatic transmission. The four-wheel-drive system provides improved traction for off-road driving, snow, and towing conditions. When properly equipped, the Dakota can tow up to about 6,000 pounds depending on engine configuration. Fuel economy averages roughly 1416 MPG in the city and 1820 MPG on the highway depending on the engine. The SLT trim adds upgraded comfort and appearance features including chrome exterior accents, alloy wheels, fog lights, and body-colored trim. The Quad Cab configuration provides four full doors and a rear seating area that accommodates up to five or six passengers depending on the seating setup.
