The R-Line on the 2020 Passat essentially packages a sportier design and a few comfort/tech features above the base S/SE trims. It’s mainly an appearance and convenience upgrade, not a performance overhaul — it still uses the same engine as other trims.
If you want a sportier look with bigger wheels, unique styling cues, a sunroof, and some nicer interior touches without jumping all the way to the more luxury-oriented SEL trim, the R-Line is what that trim level offers.
