Last week I took my 2018 Dodge Ram 1500 eco diesel for an oil change and to have a slow leak fixed in a tire. The advisor, Dana, told me I needed to have my fuel filter replaced. I told to go ahead and chang oil change and to have a slow leak fixed in a tire. The advisor, Dana, told me I needed to have my fuel filter replaced. I told to go ahead and change it. 30 minutes later it was ready. I paid the $480 and left. Less than a mile down the road I get a service Electronic fuel message followed by my fan turning on high. I turned around and went back to the dealership. I left the truck running so the advisor could hear what was going on. Dana came out with another advisor and confirmed that there was an error. Dana also told the other advisor that she had seen that error when she brought the truck out to me but that after turning the truck off and then on again the error wasn’t there. Dana asked me if I want them to diagnose the problem. She said there would be a $174 diagnostic fee to determine the problem and it would be at least 3 days before they could look at it. I asked if the truck was drivable and was told no. I said that I guess I don’t have a choice so they needed to look at it. I expressed my concern that it seemed odd that I got the error immediately after they changed the fuel filter. I said that I really don’t believe in coincidences. Dana’s response was, unfortunately we do believe in coincidences. She said people always think we are just trying to make money off of them. Frustrated that I had to leave my truck and even more frustrated that they were going to charge me when 10 minutes earlier they had the truck in their shop. I really had no choice but to leave it, call my wife who was an hour away to come pick me up. I called Dana several times during the next to days to ask for a status update. Each time she was condescending and seemed bothered by my calls. Finally I was told they found the problem and it had to do with a cooling sensor. Not the error message I got earlier. Dana told me that it would be over 800 to fix it. Of course I gave the ok, what else could I do. 5 days after taking my truck in for an oil change I picked up my truck after paying over $1300. So why am I so disappointed and dissatisfied? Forget the coincidence of having my truck break down immediately after an oil change. What I am really frustrated about is the total lack of empathy and or understanding. Customer service was absent during my experience. I will never do any business with Autonation nor will I recommend them to anyone. If you are looking for a service department for your vehicle and don’t care about customer service then feel free to give them a try. More
We had a catastrophic breakdown on our way to the DFW airport for a short vacation. AutoNation was the closest dealership, & repairs were not going to be cheap or timely. We revised our travel plans so t airport for a short vacation. AutoNation was the closest dealership, & repairs were not going to be cheap or timely. We revised our travel plans so that we could still make our trip, & we decided to look into buying a used vehicle upon our return. We'd already considered purchasing a new vehicle, but we had hoped to drive my 2013 Journey for another year or 2 since it was paid off, and we have a baby due in July. This, however, didn't work out for us, so while traveling, we decided to see what kind of used vehicles they had. The 1st vehicle we pulled up that matched our needs & budget (& that you can STILL PULL UP for some *crazy* reason) was a 2018 Dodge Journey for $14,998 with 16,552 miles on it. We called about this immediately because this would have worked great for us, but we were informed it was already sold. This vehicle is OBVIOUSLY being used as bait, because as soon as we RESERVED the Journey we are now in (w/much higher mileage & a much higher price tag) it was removed from the website. It has been 2 WEEKS - and the Journey we initially wanted & could have afforded much easier is STILL UP EVEN THOUGH WE WERE TOLD IT WAS SOLD. This dishonesty is the first of many reasons we will never use them for a vehicle purchase again. Next, during the purchasing process, we decided to apply for a loan through USAA. We informed our salesman we were looking at other financing options, but he did not tell us they didn't accept outside financing until the DAY we were returning from vacation & making our purchase. This was 2 DAYS after we had initially gotten approval through USAA & informed the dealership of our likely plans to use outside financing. This meant we had no option but to go with their overpriced financing. Upon getting transportation to the dealership, we were informed they would honor the offer that USAA had made us, but this does not negate the fact that they purposefully & knowingly deceived us until it was too late to make other plans. The salesman even claimed they hadn't been accepting outside financing for a year, but he initially acted like this was new news to him when he called & told us. (We are reporting this information to the OCCC as well since this is a frowned upon practice in Texas). Finally, we were shown the vehicle we planned to purchase. While it is a newer Journey (2019), there were considerable issues with the interior of the vehicle due to what appeared to be a spill of industrial strength adhesive of some sort. It was obvious the dealership had not made much effort to remedy the issue & did not seem bothered by selling this vehicle to a PREGNANT woman. The salesman was "unsure of" what it was that was spilled. This was all over and in the back cargo bin area, as well as under the bin, and in the hold where the jack is. It gets all over anyone who touches these areas, and it takes something like alcohol/acetone to wash it off your skin. This was also inside the 2 second row bins. I wish we had pried more at the time of the purchase, but we honestly felt as if we had no other options. We were both due at work the next day, and the whole situation had been a nightmare. The dealership had us in a corner, and they knew it since there wasn't much that could be done with our other vehicle, and they did not have anything else on the lot that fit our needs. Now, after 2 professional detailers have worked on the car (at the recommendation of the salesman) to the tune of $450, they are still unable to clean up all of the adhesive - and their recommendation was to find out if the dealership will replace the cargo area bin and reimburse us for the money we've spent. Since I have my doubts about this, I felt like going ahead and sharing our experience here. I'd hope in the future that other people can expect better from dealerships that are selling used vehicles for new car prices. It seems like a small effort to make to ensure the interior of the vehicle is in the best shape possible to improve the overall aesthetic and value of the car. More
