What should have been a milestone—buying a new RAV4 Limited—turned into one of the most disappointing, misleading, and unprofessional car purchases I’ve ever made. Poor Service from the Start The issues started at my very first visit. I confirmed with the salesperson that I could come in for a test drive, gave my ETA (20 minutes), and headed to the dealership. When I arrived, he was nowhere to be found. I was told he had “left for a family thing.” This wasn’t described as an emergency—just that he left. I was handed off to someone else at the last minute. That person—the one who actually took me on the test drive—was amazingly helpful and informative. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to keep working with them. Instead, I was assigned back to the original salesperson, whose lack of follow-through and professionalism set the tone for the rest of my experience. The Car I Test Drove Wasn’t the Car I Took Home I test drove a specific RAV4 Limited with a digital rearview mirror—a feature I valued. But the vehicle I signed for and drove home did not have that feature. By the time I noticed, the paperwork was already complete. I ended up stuck with a different car than the one I intended to buy. Misleading Information When I later asked about the differences between the two white RAV4 Limiteds on the lot, the salesperson told me the only distinction was “frameless rearview mirror vs. mudguards.” That was inaccurate. Both had mudguards, but only one had the digital rearview mirror. This lack of clarity directly led to me purchasing the wrong vehicle. Time & Delivery Failures * I was told the process would take 60–90 minutes. It dragged on for nearly five hours. * Pricing wasn’t straightforward. The initial written quote was $200 higher than the online listing, and the “negotiable” fee was only lowered when I challenged it—not because anyone was looking out for me. * Delivery was rushed and dismissive. Beyond syncing my phone, I was told to watch YouTube tutorials for everything else. At other Autonation dealerships, I’ve always been fully oriented before leaving. No Response from Management After the purchase, I reached out to leadership—not once, but multiple times: * On Saturday evening, I texted the Sales Manager outlining my concerns. * On Sunday, I sent a detailed email to both the Sales Manager and General Manager. * When no one responded, I sent a second email to them plus a Financial Services staff member. I have yet to receive any acknowledgment—not even a courtesy “we received your concerns.” The silence from management is almost worse than the original mistakes, because it signals avoidance and a lack of accountability. Inappropriate Push for Reviews Adding insult to injury, right before I drove off the lot, the salesperson asked me to leave a 5-star Google review and texted me a direct link. Given how many things had already gone wrong, this felt manipulative and wildly inappropriate. Lessons Learned I’m not a novice when it comes to buying a car. Yes, there are things I could have done differently, but I asked clear questions, documented every conversation, and still ended up misled. I’ve learned the hard way to double- and triple-check every detail. Even so, the dealership failed me at every turn—with misinformation, broken promises, lack of transparency, and, most frustratingly, complete silence when I tried to get answers. Bottom Line I ended up with the wrong RAV4 and have no trust in this dealership. I wrongly assumed that, being an Autonation location, I’d receive the same high-quality service I’ve come to expect—but I was poorly mistaken. Unless leadership addresses these failures, I won’t be back. Other buyers deserve to know what they’re walking into. While I love the vehicle I got, I would have loved the one I intended to buy even more. More
