At the last minute, I was told I would also be required to provide two personal references. I have purchased vehicles across state lines before and have never encountered this requirement. I also asked my insurance agent, who has 23 years of industry experience and personally owns seven vehicles, whether they had ever heard of such a policy. They said they had not. When I questioned the requirement, I was initially told it was a lender policy and that the references would not be contacted. I then offered to wire the full purchase price instead. At that point, I received a different explanation: Bill Luke requires two references on every transaction, particularly for out-of-state buyers, and the references would only be contacted if the dealership could not reach me regarding paperwork or titling. I requested a written copy of either the dealership policy or the lender requirement, but nothing was ever provided. I was not comfortable sharing the personal information of friends, family members, or colleagues for a vehicle purchase, particularly when this requirement had never been disclosed in writing before I completed a credit application, placed a deposit, and spent several days working through the transaction. I understand that dealerships are entitled to establish their own policies. My concern is not that they have a policy—it’s that this requirement was introduced at the last minute rather than being disclosed upfront. I do want to recognize Luis Luigo, my initial salesperson, who was fantastic throughout the process. Unfortunately, my communication with Andrew “Andy” Mazzei was disappointing. Rather than working toward a reasonable solution or addressing my concerns, his responses felt dismissive. Unfortunately, my experience lacked the transparency and professionalism I expect when making a major purchase. More
