LIES, GREED, AND HORRIBLE UPPER MANAGEMENT — OUR EXPERIENCE WITH CAPITOL CHEVROLET Before explaining what happened, we want to make one important distinction: this review is not directed at Ron, EXPERIENCE WITH CAPITOL CHEVROLET Before explaining what happened, we want to make one important distinction: this review is not directed at Ron, our salesperson. Ron has done an excellent job communicating with us, returning our calls, keeping us informed, and doing everything he appears able to do within his position. At every turn, Ron has tried to help. The pictures show a beautiful-looking car on the outside. Unfortunately, what we discovered underneath was an unsafe vehicle with serious mechanical and safety problems. My wife paid cash for this 2014 MINI Cooper Coupe using all the savings she had set aside to purchase a dependable vehicle. We trusted Capitol Chevrolet when we were told that the vehicle had been serviced and had passed a 60-point inspection. On the third day after the purchase, the MINI stalled in the middle of a busy highway. This was an extremely frightening and dangerous experience that could have ended very differently. We immediately took the vehicle to MINI of Austin for an independent inspection. MINI documented $5,144.67 in recommended work, including: - An engine oil leak caused by a failed valve-cover/oil-separator component - A leaking rear shock requiring replacement - Both rear taillight assemblies requiring replacement - Brake-light sockets that were damaged or melted - Both license-plate lights not working - A badly cracked water-pump pulley These were not minor cosmetic complaints. Inoperative rear lights and license-plate lights create serious safety concerns and could expose the driver to traffic citations. The badly cracked water-pump pulley could fail, cause overheating, and potentially result in catastrophic engine damage. Combined with the highway stall, this vehicle was not something we felt was safe for my wife to continue driving. We provided Capitol Chevrolet with the MINI inspection report, repair estimate, receipt, photographs, and a detailed written request for assistance. Ron has continued contacting us and keeping us informed, and we genuinely appreciate his efforts. However, after a full week, the upper-management decision-makers still have not offered a meaningful solution. The dealership was quick to complete the sale and accept all of my wife’s savings, but upper management has been painfully slow to act after learning that the vehicle stalled on a highway and had more than $5,000 in documented problems only three days after purchase. What we were told about the vehicle being inspected and serviced does not match what MINI of Austin documented immediately after the sale. Our experience with Capitol Chevrolet’s upper management has felt defined by broken representations, profit placed ahead of customer safety, and a complete lack of urgency after the sale. That is why we describe our experience with upper management as lies, greed, and horrible leadership. We did not expect a 12-year-old vehicle to be perfect. We did expect it to be reasonably safe, roadworthy, and consistent with the dealership’s representations. No family should invest all its savings into a vehicle, have it stall on a highway three days later, and then spend a full week waiting for upper management to take meaningful responsibility. As people of faith, we do not take pleasure in writing a negative review, and our purpose is not retaliation. Our faith calls us to tell the truth, pursue what is fair, and care about the safety and well-being of our neighbors. We therefore believe we have a responsibility to share our documented experience so other families can make informed decisions and avoid the safety risks, financial loss, wasted time, emotional stress, and frustration that our family has experienced. We sincerely pray that Capitol Chevrolet’s upper management chooses to do what is right and provides a fair resolution. We will gladly update this review if that happens. Until then, prospective buyers deserve to know exactly what our family experienced. More
