I have purchased 5 cars from CarMax in the last 20 years. The reasons are: 1) The trade-in and the purchase are two separate transactions. No obfuscation. 2) The price is the price on the sticker. No haggling, no back room negotiating 3) Online shopping with access to many dealerships 4) Salespeople are salaried and not on commission 5) An ALMOST-new car is a WAY-better deal than a new car. 6) There is no chance of getting stuck with a "lemon". 7) Extended warranty is available at reasonable cost More

Unfortunately, all calls went to a 3rd party customer service center that was TERRIBLE. Call quality was bad as was the information, as I got three different answers from three different agents. And one was just plain rude. Even calling the local Roseville phone number wouldn't reach the actual dealership. Terrible idea to try and save a buck from a terrible 3rd party call center. More
The car is great and the agent was very nice and helpful but unfortunately we did not receive the actual car we wanted. We liked a car on the lot but wanted a similar car with lower miles at a different loc but unfortunately we did not receive the actual car we wanted. We liked a car on the lot but wanted a similar car with lower miles at a different location. We were told the car we wanted would be transfered to the current location and we could switch the cars within 10 days. We needed a car right away because our other car was totaled and our rental was running out, so we agreed to take the car we liked and then come back and switch the vehicle's. We called almost every day to check on the other car but somehow due to an email error the transfer got messed up and the other car was given to someone else. The manager would not extend the 10 day limit so we could wait to see if the car we wanted would come back. So basically we were stuck with car we bought that had 75,000 miles when what we should have done is just drive over to the other location in Sacramento the same day and bought the car with 55,000 miles, which we wanted. Management was not willing to make any other accommodations to fix the problem. They did pay to have an additional key made for us because that was in the original purchase agreement and we were not given a second key initially. More
