I purchased my Rav4 4/13. Today is 5/1 and I'm still not comfortable driving it. After test driving it 4/13, I was advised the car would be cleaned before I took it home. After completing my paperwork, I picked up the car and noticed the interior still had stains, crumbs were everywhere, and I found chips, makeup, fries and a $10 bill under the seat. I texted my salesperson, Nathan with photos of the interior when he texted me the next day asking how my experience was, but he didn't respond. I then brought my car to an auto shop to inspect and a few minor things were noted, as well as I was advised my car had been in a front end collision, though my Carmax report said it'd never been in an accident. I understand this was probably an unreported accident from the seller but I feel CarMax could have noticed, the front bumper is clearly cracked after the mechanic pointed it out and he was concerned about the paint job. I brought the car back to CarMax's service station 7:45am Monday morning and they said they'd fix the minor issues but the damage to the bumper was not covered. I do understand, though I feel it was misleading to list the vehicle as never in an accident. Carmax was communicative daily while they had my vehicle but did have to order parts so it took several days. I sent the pictures of the dirty interior to the service team and they said they'd detail it but it would take another full day. I received a call 2pm Friday that my car was finally ready and while the chips and makeup are gone, there are still crumbs and obvious large stains. It's clear it was not even wiped down. I'm confused what they did for a full day? I went back to the service station but since it's a Friday evening, no one from service was available. Salesman Daniel came to talk to me and advised someone from service would call me Monday. I hope you can understand my frustration, as I purchased this car 4/13 and haven't been able to drive it all week and now will need someone to bring it BACK next week, while I'll be out of town on work travel. I can understand not covering the bumper piece but it seems my car's interior was not looked at at all, despite me being told it would be cleaned, and the various items the mechanic caught should have been identified in the Carmax report. After paying $30k ($13k down payment,) I feel duped and taken advantage of. I really enjoyed the non-hassle, non-haggling part of buying a car through Carmax but I feel my experience has now been soured. The positive here is that the salesperson (Carlos Mendoza) was very good and made the buying experience smooth. The negative is that I would caution future buyers to not trust the vehicle inspection report provided by CarMax. In my case, they informed me of an open safety recall and directed me to any Mazda dealership to get it corrected. At the dealer, their (the Mazda dealership) inspection found that the water and drive belts were badly worn (in fact they were cracked) and the lower control arms had worn bushings (one side had cracks). Both these items were marked "green" on the CarMax inspection report. These repairs cost me ~$2000. I've been trying to get a response from people at the CarMax location but none of my calls have been returned, and I was denied being able to a manager or general manager. This does not engender trust. I will be escalating this to CarMax corporate and/or BBB and local DMV. More
I got a 2023 Tesla Model Y shipped from Murrieta down to the Balboa store. Ashley was my sales associate and she was helpful and patient during the car buying process. All the employees seemed genuinely excited for me during the car buying process and made me feel welcome while I waited for the paperwork to get sorted out. They even reimbursed me when I had to buy a new adapter to charge the car. I will definitely be back, and I’m so happy with my first experience with CarMax. While the prices may be a little higher, you pay for the peace of mind knowing that you’re getting a new car and a new best friend. More
I was pleased first with my online experience where I was able to survey many choices. When I chose the Mazda CX-3 it was at another dealership. I have to include CarMax El Cajon as well as they helped make this entire experience a five plus star experience. Big xxxxxxto Joe who was my salesman, Brandon my finance contact, the sales manager who honored the trade in price in which an issue with data entry in the computer but I has the print out receipt, the customer service agent Bo and Keem when I called in to finalize scheduling sales agreement detail work to be done and saving the best for last, the incredible service closers Aubrianna and Joe at El Cajon. Each of them went above and beyond helping to coordinate the detailing appointment. They were friendly, professional and in constant communication with me to keep me updated. I was provided a loaner car while the work was being done and even when an unforeseen issue came up with the work, it was immediately handled. I felt like I was valued as a customer and the after sales support knocked this car shopping experience off the charts exceptional! I highly recommend CarMax. No haggle, we value you customer service vibes and will go the extra mile to ensure you are happy with your trade in and car purchase. More
We had a challenge with having a car sent from another location because it arrived missing the title. Zero communication was provided from the Kearny Mesas dealership.
