On 8/20/26 after two weeks of built up excitement waiting for my dream car to arrive, I was ready to finally see and drive it. Loved the way it looked and how clean and presentable it was. Only 40,000 miles for my dream car to arrive, I was ready to finally see and drive it. Loved the way it looked and how clean and presentable it was. Only 40,000 miles on excellent condition, And out.on the 20 minute test drive, it handled a ride like a new car. No unusual dash lights or other red flags. I drove it home, park it inside my house and closed the garage door o went back out to the garage an hour later only to be Blasted with raw gas fumes coming from the car. The odor was so strong that fumes seeped into the house. The next morning I was told by CarMax service to take the car to Goodyear repair shop to have them look at. After awaiting In the repair shop for 5 1/2 hours one of the mechanics finally gave the diagnosis: the car needed a new fuel tank and other components and it would likely be on a two week back order. It took a lot of research and digging to try and find a specific car with the low mileage and in the excellent Condition I was looking for so I played along a few days. But by day 9 i had enough time to gain more sense and after finding out through the mechanics that the part they needed to fix the car was not even in yet and probably wouldn’t be in till the following week that was enough for me to call it quits with this car and return the rental and do the process of cancelling the car and getting a full refund. Nobody’s first experience with a new car should be getting to know the mechanics on a personal level. Yes I had a cheap loaner car that CarMax gave me but it was nowhere as luxurious or nice as the vehicle I bought. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how awful my experience with Grace Garcia in the service department was. I had the lovely experience of trying to communicate with this person several times that day. Each encounter with her was an experience in condescending tones, poor work attitudes and complete lack of professionalism. One of her comments was, I explained to you how this works already, why are you not understanding it? I’m already stressed out over this situation, I find out the car just bought I will not be able to use right away, and the car was unsafe to test drive, let alone drive drive it all of the 20 miles from the dealership to my house. I had been driving said car all over town with a defective or bad gas tank and your wondering why you have to re-explain yourself to make your self more clear? Grace has no business working around people. She has no interpersonal communication skills and escalates situations, she doesn’t calm an emotional situation down or improve the circumstances like aProfessional would be able to accomplish! And don’t bother trying to report her to supervisors and managers because they don’t even want to hear it. They will either ignore it or they will change the subject, but they are obviously not comfortable talking to her about how she is. Makes you wonder what she’s got over their heads. .so how can you be confident in Carmax’s much advertised 125 point inspection. The fuel tank and fuel components are clearly part of the 125 point check yet they over overlooked a bad gas tank that could have been an explosion hazard to the customer. I still need a vehicle, but I will not be getting one from this particular carmax and I will also be looking at Carvana as well.. More

I didn’t have the best experience during my visit. A sales associate lied to me and tried to pressure me into buying a car, and when I brought this to a manager’s attention, he laughed about it. Becau A sales associate lied to me and tried to pressure me into buying a car, and when I brought this to a manager’s attention, he laughed about it. Because this didn’t feel right, I called corporate to verify the information I was given. Unfortunately, none of what the associate told me was accurate and actually went against the company’s own policies. The highlight of my visit was meeting Benjamin. He was a new sales representative and took me step‑by‑step through the entire process, making me feel secure and confident in my purchase. It ended up being the perfect experience — it was his first sale and my first car, which made it even more special. All answers below are a reflection of Benjamins work, the other sales associate and manager made me want to take my business elsewhere! More
The process of buying the initial vehicle essential wonderful and I loved the process and would recommend Carmax to anyone. However, where I think there should be some improvement is the return/trade i wonderful and I loved the process and would recommend Carmax to anyone. However, where I think there should be some improvement is the return/trade in process. After 24 hours I decided that I would like to return the calr and get a new vehicle, which was required to be shipped. This is where I think there needs to be improvement. Was told and the email I relieved that the car would be shipped in 1-2 business days. It is now Busines day 5 and I have had no updates in the status of the new vehicle. More
