This was our first time using the CarMax system of sales to purchase a vehicle. We found it to be a low-pressure sales environment with friendly service. We had a specific vehicle type (Make and Model) that we were looking for - The Meridian location did have a selection that met what we were looking for. Asking for vehicle history we learned CarMax does not provide any Carfax information (unusual in our experience for a reputable sales location), the previous service statistics were vague. This was new to us in car buying, even though the sales staff indicated that the vehicle had been serviced and that the tires had been rotated, however, I should have been more specific with my questions as to what type of pre-vehicle inspection and service had been done on the vehicle. After purchasing the vehicle, we learned from a reputable service facility that the latest Carfax service history was from 2022. We had the vehicle fully serviced (70K Miles) and learned that the oil and air filter had not been serviced recently - unknown how long it had been - and the tires had not been rotated on a regular basis. As cash buyers ($38,000+) we'd hope to have purchased a vehicle that had been inspected and serviced, not just washed. The dealership did offer an extended service warrantee for an additional cost. Had a car shipped from Florida to Idaho. Paid $2000. Went to see the car upon arrival and it was not as advertised. Mismatched tires, worn interior and bad seat belt. Couldn’t test drive it due to safety concerns on the seat belt. Very unhappy until the manager offered to refund my shipping fee and suggested I find a better car. I did. Had it shipped from California and it was so much better for less money. Bought the car and they even paid for a rim refinishing due to curb rash. They went from a zero to five stars by realizing the first car was a mess and letting me off of a $2000 hook. Experience started off very poorly and ended quite well. More

I had reservations on CarMax, mostly because of a set price, but ultimately paid a small fee to have the car shipped to my local location. It took some time to arrive, so had to be extra patient. On arrival, they called me and I was able to work out some details on purchasing, test driving, paper work, etc. On my scheduled day, I showed up and had to again submit my insurance and drivers license (even though I test drove a car there a month prior, as well as submitted these online when transferring the car to the location... would be nice if they made this non-recurring), but was able to test drive the car. I wish there wasn't pressure to keep the test drive shorter (was told 25-30 minutes, didn't need that much time really but I like knowing I have headroom). Had some concerns with the car and their team made sure to double-check everything for me. My salesperson I worked with (Matthew M.) was very calm and took the time to insure all my questions were answered. Ultimately signed the papers and drove the car home. Since, I've gone over it with a fine-tooth comb and really, I feel like I got a great deal as the car is in great shape, inside and out. After having gone through this experience, I believe it's worth spending a little more at CarMax than haggling with the shady used dealerships. More
