Don't waste your time like I did, find a decent dealership Located a used vehicle I was interested in on cars.com advertised for sale at $10,977 (this was the low end of KBB / NADA value range for this vehicle Located a used vehicle I was interested in on cars.com advertised for sale at $10,977 (this was the low end of KBB / NADA value range for this vehicle) and contacted Naperville CJDR. Received a prompt follow-up call and was advised that the vehicle was priced at $12,977 (this was the high end of KBB / NADA value range for this vehicle), I informed the dealership employee that the vehicle was listed on cars.com for $10,977 and she looked up the ad, confirmed that the car was indeed advertised for $10,977 and informed me that the dealership "would have to honor that price since it was advertised and that she would have someone call me back to work out the details". I sensed that this wasn't going to happen, so I printed out the cars.com ad to document the discrepancy and called the dealership back. I was told that there was a mistake when the ad was posted which had already been corrected and that the vehicle was now for sale for $12,977. I attempted to compromise and offered to meet in the middle and pay $12,000 but the offer was declined. I asked to speak to the GM or Used Car Manager and received a call from Ed Burke who informed me that the car was originally advertised for $10,977 by mistake and that this is "what they had into the vehicle", I told him I understood that and thought that a reasonable compromise was to meet in the middle at $12,000 but was informed by Ed that "this would be a bad business practice for the dealership because this was a recently acquired vehicle and there is plenty of interest in the vehicle at $12,977". I told Ed that I thought it was also a bad business practice to advertise a vehicle for sale at a specific price and then refuse to sell it at that price and that it seemed like a reasonable compromise to accept $1,000 more than it was originally listed for (earning the dealership a $1,000 profit) and was informed that "there is no way we are going to sell you this vehicle for $12,000, it is only for sale at the current advertised price of $12,977". In hindsight, this probably saved me from doing business with a dealership that's much more focused on profit than treating customers fair and ethically. More
