I am submitting this review regarding what I believe were materially false and misleading representations made in connection with the sale of a 2002 Porsche 911 through Collectible Classics on the Hagerty Ma materially false and misleading representations made in connection with the sale of a 2002 Porsche 911 through Collectible Classics on the Hagerty Marketplace platform. I do not believe Amity Auto did anything wrong other than giving info to Collectible Classics when they weren't the ones that talked with Amity Auto. I purchased the vehicle in reliance upon representations made in the auction listing that the car had undergone a Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI) by Amity Auto and that the inspection found no issues, leaks, or concerns. These statements were presented as factual information regarding the vehicle's condition and materially influenced my decision to bid and purchase the vehicle. Shortly after taking possession, I learned that a prior winning bidder had ordered and paid for a limited inspection focused on bore scoring and paint concerns and subsequently declined to complete the purchase. Collectible Classics nevertheless characterized that limited inspection as a PPI. After obtaining my own inspection, numerous defects requiring substantial repairs were identified. I then contacted Amity Auto directly and was informed by both telephone and email that it did not perform a Pre-Purchase Inspection on the vehicle. Amity Auto confirmed that its inspection was limited in scope, related only to bore scoring and paint concerns, and was not intended to serve as a comprehensive evaluation of the vehicle's overall condition. I have also obtained confirmation from both the private individual who ordered the inspection and the individual who performed it that it was not a PPI. Collectible Classics had no involvement in ordering or performing the limited inspection and could not offer knowledgeable information on its results as stated by the email from Amity Auto. This distinction is significant because a reasonable consumer understands a PPI to be a comprehensive inspection designed to identify material mechanical defects and maintenance concerns. Had I known that no actual PPI had been performed and that the inspection referenced in the listing was limited in scope, I would have obtained my own inspection, adjusted my bidding strategy, or declined to purchase the vehicle altogether. Collectible Classics operates in the specialty and collector vehicle market, where PPIs are common and well understood. Given their experience, it is reasonable to expect that they understand the difference between a limited inspection and a true Pre-Purchase Inspection. Despite being provided with documentation from Amity Auto, repair estimates, and other supporting evidence, Collectible Classics continues to deny responsibility and characterize the inspection as a Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI). This inspection was purportedly performed by Amity Auto, a neighboring business that describes itself as a "2 Man Show" and a "general tire and auto repair shop".
