1-Star Review – Disappointing Warranty Experience on a Known Issue I own a 2018 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited with the Gold Plus 10-year/100,000-mile extended warranty (current mileage 65,480) that I pur Known Issue I own a 2018 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited with the Gold Plus 10-year/100,000-mile extended warranty (current mileage 65,480) that I purchased specifically to protect against failures of factory-installed components. The vehicle and warranty was purchased from Courtesy Subaru of Chico, now Pajouh Automotive Center. In April 2024, the vehicle began having battery drain issues after sitting for several days. Pajouh Subaru replaced the battery under warranty. The problem gradually worsened over the next two years. On June 1, 2026, I brought it back because the battery would no longer hold a charge for more than 24 hours. The dealership diagnosed the root cause as the factory Data Communication Module (DCM/Starlink) continuously drawing power as it tried to sync with the network—even though I have never had a Starlink subscription. They performed a “hard factory reset” and charged me $259. I was told this repair was not covered under my Gold Plus warranty. When I contacted Subaru of America (Case #260603-2001378) for reimbursement, both Pajouh and SOA refused, stating the separate DCM warranty extension (TSB 15-317-24R) had expired in November 2025. This is a well-known parasitic drain issue affecting many 2016–2018 Subarus, and the symptoms were clearly present during my 2024 visit—yet it was never properly diagnosed or addressed at that time. I find it very disappointing that a premium extended warranty I paid thousands of dollars for does not cover a factory-installed component with a documented defect, especially when the problem predates the expiration of the specific extension. The progressive nature of the drain means the DCM issue was likely killing the battery back in 2024 while coverage should have still applied. I understand warranty expirations, but I expected Subaru and Pajouh to stand behind a known design flaw on an original equipment part rather than leaving the customer to pay out of pocket after purchasing their extended protection plan. Advice to other owners: If your 2016–2018 Subaru has intermittent battery drain, insist on a full DCM check per TSB 15-317-24R. Consider pulling the DCM fuse yourself if you don’t use Starlink features. I would not recommend Pajouh Subaru for service or warranty work based on this experience. More
I purchased a car from them two years ago, and was very happy with the sales staff. I was purchasing another new car for them and had the worst experience ever. Beware. Get everything in writing. I think the worst part was that when I went to get the car, it wasn’t the same vehicle that I had originally inquired about and that we were making this deal on. There was many other switch and bait type issues. Just beware More

We were treated respectfully throughout the sales process by every Courtesy employee, from the young man who washed and fueled our car to the finance officer. Even though the dealership closed at 8 pm, we didn't feel rushed. Matt stayed with us, answering questions, making sure we understood the the operational features of our new Forester, and even taking photos of us with our new SUV to share with our family, until well after 9 pm. Matt was happy to further answer questions the following day as well. We are looking forward to working with Courtesy Automotive service department for regular service of our Forester.
