I recently had an unacceptably poor experience with Fairfax Volvo, located at 11050 Fairfax Blvd, Fairfax, Va 22030. On Friday December 14th, my wife took her Volvo S70 in to their service department Fairfax Volvo, located at 11050 Fairfax Blvd, Fairfax, Va 22030. On Friday December 14th, my wife took her Volvo S70 in to their service department for routine maintenance, a head light was out, and one or two other minor things. We received and initial estimate of approximately $1,700 for “recommended repairs” and other maintenance from their service department. $1,700 was more than we were looking to spend, but at the time we had no reason to doubt the recommendation. At no time was any problem mentioned or identified with the clutch, there was no problems presenting with the clutch when we brought the vehicle in, and in what I can only assume must have been a through inspection to produce $1,700 in “recommended repairs” no issues with the clutch were identified. This will come up again. We ended up going with approximately $1,500 worth of repairs; we opted out of the power steering system flush. When we picked the vehicle up Saturday 15 December, my wife instantly noticed that there was now a problem with the clutch, it appeared much tighter and the vehicle was having trouble accelerating. After both of us taking turns driving it we concluded that there was a new and very significant problem with the vehicle and ultimately unsafe for our 2 year-old son to ride in. We called the service department and after some time and discussion they agreed to take it back. About an hour and a half after paying their service department $1,500 to fix our vehicle, it was back in there with new problems apparently caused by the Fairfax Volvo department. The issue sat unresolved until Monday 17 December, when we were finally contacted by their department, they claimed they had done nothing wrong during their initial workmanship, but the clutch was slipping, and it would be an additional $2,300 to fix. They believed it was only a coincidence that the problem developed after they had worked on the vehicle. I am not a believer in coincidence and to believe that the two events are not connected defies all reason. The clutch was fine, the Fairfax Volvo service department then worked on the vehicle, and we got the vehicle back in worse condition than we provided it in. In effect I paid Fairfax Volvo $1,500 to BREAK my vehicle. I opted not to have any more repairs done at their service department, as I had not reason to believe they would actually fix my vehicle no matter how much money I paid. I picked up my vehicle on Tuesday 18 December and will NOT be returning. Of particular note, the Fairfax Volvo Assistant Service Manager, Clark Speaker, is either dishonest or incompetent. As soon as we contacted him that there was a problem with the vehicle after the initial workmanship, he became difficult to work with and often hostile or outright rude. He did not appear to want to acknowledge an issue or make any effort to ensure this issue came to a satisfactory resolution. Beyond being incredibly rude to both my wife and me, he refused to acknowledge the possibility that the Fairfax Volvo service department could have been culpable in damaging my vehicle, refused to back up or stand behind the workmanship, and implied that I should simply “take his word” as a mechanic, that they had done nothing wrong. Well, the mechanic broke my vehicle; I cannot trust his opinion or judgment. The only two conclusions I can reach from this is that either, he intentionally broke my vehicle to run up the bill, or he or his tech’s poor work caused a new problem with my vehicle that they refuse to take responsibility for. Neither reflects well on Mr. Speaker or their service department. Ultimately, I would rather have my car die on the side of the road than use the Fairfax Volvo service department ever again. The poor workmanship, abhorrent customer service, particularly the professional conduct of Mr. Speaker, and refusal to correct mistakes are no way to run a business. Never will I, any members of my family, or my friends ever do business with Fairfax Volvo again. I regret going to their service department in the first place and wish I had been more through in my online research, and seen all the negative reviews and feedback against that service department, to know I never should have trusted them. I've had many experiences with auto dealers and I can say the service, price and overall experience was outstanding. This was by far the easiest, least stressful, most professional car buying transaction I have ever experienced. After spending time at another dealership, I called Sales Manager Pete Kesterson to ask professional car buying transaction I have ever experienced. After spending time at another dealership, I called Sales Manager Pete Kesterson to ask a few questions. It was immediately evident that Pete knows a great deal about Volvos and the company's programs. I learned more true facts in a 10 minute phone call with Pete than I did from an entire afternoon at that other place. Pete located several outstanding cars that met my specifications, described the differences of each vehicle, and helped me reach an informed decision. His communications style, whether in person, on the phone, or via electronic media is clear, direct, and respectful. I really appreciated that Pete would tell me if he didn't know the answer to a question, but he would also commit to finding an answer and let me know when he would be back in touch -- he was true to his word and answered all questions in a timely manner. His professional demeanor, customer service-oriented approach, and no-pressure tactics were a refreshing change. Best of all, once I committed to the purchase, the paperwork process was smooth and really fast. A great car buying experience. More
I outgrew my beloved Volvo stationwagon because we added a 3rd dog to our household so I needed to move up to a larger vehicle. I brought three dog crates, a cooler and 2 suitcases to the dealership to make a 3rd dog to our household so I needed to move up to a larger vehicle. I brought three dog crates, a cooler and 2 suitcases to the dealership to make sure my gear would fit in either the XC-60 or XC-90. These men went out of their way to be helpful, were knowledgeable about the two vehicles I was comparing, and gave me a good price for the one I finally chose. The sales process was efficient and it was a win-win for me and the dealership. I am very happy with my new vehicle. More

Car buying has never been one of my favorite experiences but I can honestly say that was not the case when we purchased our new S-60. He (Wayne ) took time to explain the vehicles and models while keeping in mind what I wanted in my vehicle. Wayne also went step by through the process until Pete Kesterson closed my deal.
