Went to Damerow Ford to test drive a new Mustang Mach-E. We got the usual “give me five minutes,” which turned into two hours. We agreed the MSRP of the other vehicle was only slightly higher (less than $1,000 difference). Everything was negotiated as out-the-door, drive-off pricing. When the vehicle became available, we drove back up from Salem. My wife wanted to drive it one more time to make sure it was exactly what she wanted. They told us to come in and get started. Instead, they came back with a price about $5,000 higher than what we had put the deposit on. Sales consultant Victoria made several more trips back to the desk. I made it clear we were not there to renegotiate — we thought we already had a deal. They brought out another closer to try to smooth it over, but we declined any further negotiation and left. It has now been nine days and we have asked for our deposit to be returned. Victoria reached out the day after we left and asked if we wanted more time to think about it. I told her we came with the expectation that it would be the same deal and to return our deposit. We have not heard from them since. My wife also left a message with the business office and has received no return call. Part of the original deal included a $2,000 rebate they said they could apply for at the end of August. They reassured us it was money the dealership would handle. I might have been more understanding of a price change if they had been upfront that the program isn’t even open yet and the purchase would not have been eligible. (They tried to convince us we could apply for it on our own.) Instead they added another $3,000 on top of that and wasted our time. As we were leaving they called us liars and asked where our copy of the worksheet was. We didn’t feel we needed a worksheet — we had a handshake, a deposit, and financing was irrelevant to this transaction. Very thankful we didn’t end up doing business with them. More
