We backed out of our ongoing holding pattern with Toyota yesterday and walked away from the new car that we may or may not have ever received. It wasn't because of the holding pattern. That's irritating, but that's every car manufacturer and car dealership right now. It was because of the sadly stereotypical mind games, gotchas, and requested information that wasn't being communicated to us. Perhaps some day car dealerships will figure out that they might actually attract and retain customers by straightforward communication rather than driving them away by the mind games and xxxxxxxx. So we walked away, drove down the road a few miles to the Honda dealership, and bought the Honda equivalent of the Toyota we chose not to buy. The sales guy we interacted with was refreshingly straightforward, just as he was two and half months ago when we started this process. We should have listened to our inner xxxxxxxx Detector meters (which were screaming as the needle on the BD graph pegged into the red) when we were at the Toyota dealer instead of opting for a couple more minor features that we really don't care about that much. More

During this pandemic and chip shortage, Gilbert S from Desert Toyota had pulled through for me and helped me reserve a Tacoma in time.
