As the problems continued, we lost confidence in the Jeep and asked Doug Smith to take it back toward another one, with an additional $30,000 from us. They agreed to an exchange after repairs were complete. My wife was told the Jeep would be ready Wednesday, so we arranged the exchange for Friday. While we were traveling to meet them, Stephen Wade told us bolts were missing and the coolant system had failed and was leaking. The repairs were not complete. I don’t yet know where those bolts belonged or precisely what danger the latest problems posed. But learning this after we had already driven the Jeep home makes me deeply concerned about my family’s safety. Doug Smith turned back, and the exchange did not happen. Nearly a month after giving them a running trade-in and cash, we are still making payments on a Jeep we cannot drive, with no firm date for a resolution. More
