At Jon Lancaster we pride ourselves on going above and beyond with our guests. Unfortunately at times we may not always leave the impression with a guest that was intended, and communication can break down. Regrettably, I believe this is one of those instances. As a dealer that employs “Market Based Pricing” our vehicles are already priced competitively (especially on hard to find vehicles). This vehicle was a hard to find vehicle as exemplified by the 100 mile distance this guest traveled. The guest did arrive 20 minutes after we had closed, and it is true that Lynn did have dinner plans, which he canceled with his wife. It wasn’t explained that this guest had made prior contact to our internet department earlier and was informed about “Market Based Pricing” and how this vehicle was the #1 priced vehicle out of 4 within a 150 miles. After the guest had test drove the vehicle that evening, he then asked for an additional $2000 discount from what was previously discussed. We explained that we were not able to make that concession and he then left upset. When I called the guest the next day he said we missed a deal over $500. I asked if he had been explained “Market Based Pricing” and he said that he had. When I asked him about $2000 discount he had requested, he said “I hit him low to get a better deal, but I would have settled for a $500 to $600 difference”. I apologized for the misunderstanding and then offered to make the concession of $500 as he had requested. The guest declined to take advantage of the offer by saying “I’m not driving back up there”. I then offered to bring the vehicle to him if he would like, to which he declined. I then asked him if there was anything else I could do to satisfy him? He said “no, I just wanted to let you know what had transpired”. I again apologized and thanked him for the feedback. This whole situation is very unfortunate and I wish there would have been a way to remedy this, but unfortunately no matter how hard you try, it is very difficult to please all.
