Our experience with Elgin Volkswagen started off positive, but quickly went downhill once we began discussing numbers—and the issues continued after the sale. To be fair, the salesman and finance manager were respectful, did their parts, and were the only people who consistently communicated with us. Our issue is not with them—it’s with how the dealership operates overall. When the vehicle was handed over, it was not properly prepared. It was extremely dirty despite being taken for a long period during the process, leading us to believe it was being cleaned or detailed. It clearly was not. To make matters worse, we found sunflower seed shells on the floor. I have a severe nut and seed allergy, making this a serious health and safety concern, not just a cleanliness issue. There was also a crack in the windshield that was never disclosed prior to purchase. On top of that, as we were leaving the lot, a low tire pressure warning came on—something that should have been addressed before handing over the keys. When we left, we had only about 35 miles of gas. When we called to address this, we were told the dealership only uses regular gas and could not fill the tank—even though the vehicle requires premium. That response was dismissive and completely unacceptable. Communication after the sale has been extremely poor. We have had to repeatedly follow up regarding promised window tints, calls are not returned, and we continue to receive inconsistent answers depending on who we speak with. Overall, this reflects a clear pattern of carelessness, lack of transparency, and poor follow-through. More
