This will be a long one. This experience started on a good note. My mother in laws truck was burning oil. However she had over 100k miles. Well out of warranty however the dealer worked out her and did some oil consumption tests and agreed to replace the motor with a manufactured one. They covered about 80% and she was on the hook for the rest. Well that was a pretty good deal considering and they ultimately put a brand new engine in. We were satisfied. Come almost 2 months later the car began leaking coolant and the engine light came on. Here we go. When the dealer changed the engine they didn’t replace any of the hoses…and I understand that but if the hoses already had over 100k miles in them why not suggest changing them. Needless to say they didn’t. The radiator hose became compromised and leaked all over the camshaft sensor triggering the code. She brought the car back only only to be told “ a rock must have punctured the hose” now they quoted $2800 to change 2 hoses and sensor. With $1400 of being labor. Now I work on cars and have done a lot of things but 1400 to change some hoses and sensor. Come on. At that point we took the car and I brought it to my mechanic who replaced everything for about $550 including the OEM sensor which I picked up from their dealership. The mechanics there were in unbelief once I showed the quote mainly because the labor time on this job was pretty small. One thing that was noticed by the mechanic once they finished was that the AC wasn’t working, which my MIL noticed since we had an abnormally warm day on April. When they checked they said the system was evacuated. They we realized probably when they changed the engine and never charged the system back. We immediately called Hyundai and they vehemently denied evacuating the system when they swapped the entire engine. They gave a lame excuse that the machine was down so it couldn’t have been them. So my mechanic charged the system and over all my MIL paid $815 total for everything including recharging the AC( well below the $2800 quoted for the hoses and sensors) After everything was fixed I went to pick her up and jumped in the highway and all of a sudden we experience a loss of power and now we hear what seems to be an exhaust leak. I brought the car back to the mechanic and found that the inter cooler hose had slipped off. He stated that when they replaced the engine it seems that they didn’t put the hoses back on correctly. He retightened them for free and we were in our way. This dealership in my opinion subpar at best. They are charging insane prices and clearly giving below average service. In addition my mother in law was given a loaner while the oil consumption tests were happening and she was charged till fees however the fees were dated 2 days after she returned to w car. She doesn’t go anywhere that requires tolls. She reached out the service manager and was given the run around and still hasn’t reviewed her refund. At this point we have begun seeking legal advice as well as reaching out to the BBB and NYS department of transportation and Hyundai of America. Horrible experience. Stay away. My best friend was actually going to purchase a new vehicle because his 2025 Hyundai was totaled and he was looking to purchase from a different dealer, one closer to home and asked about empire. Needless to say he will be looking at Tasca. Overall this was a terrible experience and noted incompetence on the service department. More
