Buying a new car is often not on the top list of fun things to do because even a reasonably prepared buyer may feel like an amateur in a complicated process where considerable sums of money are involved. When one adds the stress of the bargaining process, the entire affair can potentially be unpleasant. We were greeted as we pulled in to a parking spot and our salesperson (David Parker) promptly came out to introduce himself. He had a demo car of our agreed-upon configuration ready for us to inspect. I think he thought it was pretty funny that a 72 year-old man's first move was to climb into the back of the car with the rear seats laid down to assess the "sleepability" of the rear deck. Ha! We were impressed with David's authentic, unpretentious style and straight forward approach to the purchasing process. We were able to establish some interpersonal connection because of our similar backgrounds in emergency services. Even our financial and documentation representative (Kyle) was fun and engaging. He also helped us out with the necessary documents that we would need to sell our Beetle privately. We were unable to reach agreement on a trade-in price for our 2007 Beetle but here again the discussion was personable (we have forgotten the name of the appraiser who kindly came out to explain why they couldn't meet our monetary request) and professional. Now that a sizable percentage of the San Juan Island population has finally left after looking over our new RAV 4 Adventure class SUV, we actually took it out for a tour around the island. We are very pleased with our purchase! If I can just get through the 971 page instruction manual, I think that we will be just fine. All and all, a pleasant car-buying experience. I always feel taken care of when I’m there and I trust the work that they do on my car. Foothills service department has changed the way I think about taking my car to a dealership for service abs repairs and I so appreciate that! The only thing I would have liked is either the ability to rent a car from the dealership, or have the use of a loaner car. More
Sales rep; very good. finance mgr needs to be replaced. The sales rep. we had, Eric Houser, was so helpful. He spent several hours with us, explaining this new car's accouterments. The vehicle chosen had a list price lower than the "Costco Price". Not a problem as you can guess. The finance manager at the time perpetuated the Foothills business joke that if you bought a car there they would pay for a dinner out. I knew it was a joke when we went in since one of the guys told it to me and winked. After I had written the check for the car, the finance manager came on so strong with proclaiming the truth of the statement, and because it was already 9 pm and we were hungry, I believed him. He then leaned over his desk in my direction, and boldly told me we would be paying for our own dinner. I felt humiliated. He did say he felt embarrassed.. I looked him right in the eyes and said, GOOD and left without even shaking hands. More
