Opportunistic and Dishonet Perhaps I should have checked checked out the company before I ordered my Corvette C8 from Gateway Chevrolet. I placed my order 7 months ago and got t Perhaps I should have checked checked out the company before I ordered my Corvette C8 from Gateway Chevrolet. I placed my order 7 months ago and got the first allocation in Arizona. I was prompted to pick Gateway as the dealer by General Motors. The invoice I received after walking through the specifications was $84,000. There was never any mention of a dealer markup - and I corresponded many times with the dealership. Imagine my surprise when I went to pick up the car, only to find an opportunistic Covid-19 markup of $20,000 (the plant has stopped producing cars due to the pandemic). The GM Robert Perez lied straight to my face and said he had told me about the dealer markup - when asked to produce proof, he produced a copy of an email on which he had handwritten +$20k - the ink did not even appear to be dry. When I requested to speak to the owner, I was denied and told "It is what it is, if you don't like it you can leave". Prior to any mention of a markup, he had mentioned that he could probably sell the car for $140k. How GM allows this kind of dishonesty to exist in their dealer network is a complete mystery. Taking advantage of a global pandemic for profit is deplorable. Fortunately I was able to source a replacement car from a more reputable dealer. More
