Exceptional Service Buying a New Car at Hatfield's Hyundia Being a sixty-seven year old woman that had totalled her car, I was dreading the car buying experience. I had done a couple weeks of web searches and phone conversations with several dealers. Then I went out to test drive cars at several dealerships that I had decided on. After several visits, I then went to Hatfield's Hyundia in Columbus, Ohio. There I was met by a salesman, Rich Highley. He quickly made me feel very comfortable listening as I explain my situation and what I was interested in buying. He quickly zoomed in on exactly what I was wanting.He did not try to sell me something else or question my choice. Instead he sat with me and went over everything about car explaining warranties, services by Hyundia, and the benefits of gap insurance (which I had recently experienced), and all resources that Hatfield offers their customers. I found Rich to be very knowledgeable, pleasant, caring, good listener, and honest as he lead me through the process of purchasing a new car. I had a rental and Rich personally filled the rental with gas and arranged to have it picked up there. Rich then introduced me to Finance Manager,Ryan Thornton. Ryan went well beyond his job to assist me in financing my car. I discovered Ryan to be very helpful , caring, also a good listener, as he too thoroughly went over all the paper work that follow purchasing a new car. Ryan even helped me with my past gap insurance policy in getting a refund. Both gentlemen walked me to my new car and gave me their business cards with their personal cell numbers in case I would have questions later or have any concerns about anything. Wish to buy my daughter her first car. We found a used Hyndai Tucson (on line) at Hatfield that looked perfect--low mileage and great price. My call was forwarded to Lori who was friendly and helpful. There were no photos on line so I asked her to confirm the color of the interior of the black vehicle. She called back and confirmed it was grey: exactly what we were looking for. I even called a second time to CONFIRM it had a grey interior and AGAIN I was assured it did. I live in Pittsburgh PA but gave a deposit and made arrangements to take a FOUR HOUR Greyhound bus trip to Columbus to pick up the car. (took a $35 cab from bus station to Hatfield as well!). When Lori brought the car around, one look and I was horrified to see what was clearly a brown and tan interior. Lori said (quote)"That's definitely gray!" Even the sale tag on the rear window read, "Interior: Taupe". I was furious AND disappointed. Lori never admitted she was wrong--she did apologize however. The sales manager, Larry apologized as well and asked what he could do "to make it right". We settled on the idea of finding me a NEW Hyundai Tuscon (I even agreed to a GLS versus the Limited we came to purchase) and in a matter of 5 minutes on the phone, he declared that they could do nothing unless I wanted to pay almost $6,000 more than the price of the original car. It became obvious that there was nothing they were willing to do, so I insisted on them renting me a car to drive home. Larry was hesitant at first to pay for the rental but finally agreed to do so. The entire experience was unacceptable. The $50 bus trip and $35 taxi trip aside, they made me feel like an idiot for not taking the black car with the brown interior. It was not what we wanted. I speak professionally worldwide about the Customer Experience and Hatfield has become a new story to relate on what NOT to do to ensure loyalty from customers. More
