Gate City Lincoln Mercury's service department is notorious for failing to advise us of charges when we inquire of potential service problems. For example: My wife takes the car in for an oil change and advised the service attendant that the "Service Engine" light just came on. So, they ran a diagnostic (scanned the computer) and then changed the oil and filter. However, they failed to advise my wife (in advance) of an $89.00 charge for the diagnostic scan, which the local Auto-Zone does for free!
GCLM has done this to my wife on a couple of previous visits. I have no idea why she still goes there for oil changes. I don't think they would try this with me but they will take advantage of someone who doesn't know how to ask the right questions.
A few months ago, GCLM did some body work under an insurance claim. When my wife came home with the car, I saw they had failed to re-paint the hood, even though they charged us for it on the invoice. I called the Service Manager & he said Oops!, they probably just forgot it (yeah, right!)
Also, GCLM's service charges (and estimates) are usually $150.00 to $400.00 higher than most other dealerships and service shops in the area. I would not recommend GCLM's service department to anyone.
