Hertz Car Sales Billings MT responded

My name is Keith McNally, and I'm the General Manager here at Hertz Car Sales. I'm very sorry for your frustration. While I may not be able to change your perception, I would like to offer an explanation that at least may give insight into why our paths didn't align. We have many people who tell us they want to purchase vehicles, or are "very" interested. While we trust people's good intentions, we cannot ethically hold onto a vehicle without a full commitment shown through a signed buyers order, or a credit card deposit. If you came to our store, and said you wanted to purchase a vehicle, and you were told we're holding it for someone who says they want to buy it, or are "very" interested, but we didn't have a signed order, or deposit, you would feel like you weren't being given a fair shot since you're standing there ready now. The corporate office has determined that the only fair way to offer people an equal opportunity to purchase is to get a commitment in these ways. You were asked for a commitment in one of these ways to purchase the vehicle you wanted, and you felt like you were being forced or pushed. Our intention isn't to push, but rather to be forthright with everyone when multiple people want the same vehicle. The only fair way to do business, is to accept the first commitment. It is no different than when you want to purchase a house, so the concept isn't something new or unique to Hertz. When asked by our salesperson, and again later by our sales manager, if you could please call so we could better explain this to you, you told them both you didn't have time, or were unable to talk. Unfortunately in our society today, the emails, texts, and other electronic communication have overtaken our communication, and voice inflection, and the true personal touch gets lost. While this may not suffice as an explanation you are comfortable with, I do hope it makes sense from the perspective of doing business in a way that's best for everyone to have equal opportunities at the same vehicle. I am very realistic in understanding that we can't please everyone, or all see things from the same vantage point. I can only hope you do see our sincerity, and will possibly change your mind about giving us another opportunity to earn your business in the future. Either way, we wish you the best.
