Shady Sales Tactics A friend described his awful and nightmarish experience with this dealership over the weekend. My friend was looking to trade-in his pick-up truck for A friend described his awful and nightmarish experience with this dealership over the weekend. My friend was looking to trade-in his pick-up truck for a mini-van. In the sales discussion process he provided the salesperson with his truck's vehicle registration and safety docs so they could verify make, model and year of vehicle and assess trade-in value. After hours of haggling and given the run-around, my friend simply felt he was not going to get a fair and reasonable deal, so he decided to take his business elsewhere. Upon leaving the dealership, my friend did not realize it until Sunday that the salesperson forgot to return his vehicle documents. Shortly after he left the Honolulu Volkswagen dealership (and not realizing that they forgot to return his vehicle docs), my friend decided to share his horrible experience by writing a customer review via dealership's customer feedback site. The next day (Sunday), after realizing that he had forgotten his vehicle docs, my friend called up the dealership and was again given the run-arounds, including placing him on hold for more than 30 mins and at one point hanging up on him. After several attempts at trying to speak to someone with knowledge on his vehicle docs, a manager finally came on the line and advised my friend that his vehicle docs were inadvertently thrown into the locked shredder box and could not be retrieved. My friend then decided it was time to report this incident to the Police. The Police advised him that this was an all too common tactic used by some dealerships and that they will call them up to produce his vehicle docs or it will be treated as a misdemeanor offense. Sure enough, on Monday morning the dealership dispatched a driver to personally deliver the vehicle documents to my friend's residential mail box. Needless to say, this is a shameful, greedy, and disingenuous ploy by a dishonest vendor. Shame on the few shady sales reps and managers who bring negative light on the hundreds of professional, fair-minded, and hard working sales reps on the island. More
