I’m reaching out regarding a serious issue we experienced with the Nissan vehicle I recently purchased for my daughter. While my daughter was driving home on a 12-hour trip, she stopped at Costco Gas in Fredericksburg, VA, and noticed a loud scraping sound coming from underneath the vehicle. She pulled into a nearby parking lot and discovered that the front skid plate was hanging down and scraping the ground. Thankfully, there happened to be an auto repair shop directly across the street. She took the vehicle there because she obviously could not continue a 12-hour drive with part of the vehicle hanging underneath it. The gentleman at the repair shop inspected it and told her he could either secure the skid plate or remove it, and the cost would be $65. Fortunately, he was able to secure it using two bolts and two clips. What concerns me even more is what he told her after inspecting the vehicle. He said it appeared that someone had performed an oil change and failed to reinstall the remaining bolts and clips securing the skid plate. I am extremely disappointed and honestly quite upset. This is a nearly new vehicle, and I should not have to worry about something as basic as a skid plate being improperly secured, especially while my daughter is driving 12 hours to get home. This could have easily resulted in the skid plate coming completely off, potentially causing damage to the vehicle or creating a dangerous situation while driving at highway speeds. Had she not noticed the scraping sound and stopped to investigate, the outcome could have been much worse. I purchased this vehicle with the expectation that it was properly inspected, serviced, and safe for my daughter to drive. Finding out that something appears to have been left unsecured during service is simply unacceptable. I am requesting reimbursement of the $65 repair expense incurred because of this issue. I would also appreciate an explanation of how this happened and what steps will be taken to prevent something like this from happening again. I look forward to your prompt response and resolution.
