I went in for a maintenance check and got my free oil change so they decided to make up an AC refresh so they could charge me $150 for something I can spray into my vents. After asking many questions abo change so they decided to make up an AC refresh so they could charge me $150 for something I can spray into my vents. After asking many questions about it they told me “actually never mind you don’t need an AC refresh we made a mistake”. Just another dealership trying to scam their customers. More

Meanwhile, an email arrived at my home at 10:02 saying my appointment was cancelled! They checked the car in anyway. I was told on the phone that the recalls and reprogramming the knock sensor would take about an hour. At 3pm, I was still waiting! When finished, I was told that ABS light was still on. Telling me why would cost $195.98. I stupidly agreed. Was told that as I suspected, a wheel speed sensor was bad. They offered to replace it for $650 more. . I declined, since I knew that the part is about $50 and an hour's work at home in the dirt. My $195.98 diagnosis quote became $238.64 after tax, plus the undisclosed charge of $21.56 for 'shop supplies', plus 3% if not paid in cash (checks not accepted). The entire diagnosis from driving into the garage to brought back out was 15-20 minutes, so they probably just read the code from the diagnostic port. What shop supplies were needed? I was not given a copy of the diagnosis, nor was I even given a receipt for my payment. The ABS system continued to dangerously interfere with my braking on the way home. I had learned by experiment that pulling the ABS fuse will restore safe braking, but the speedometer will not function. I can do without faulty artificial intelligence in my car interfering with braking on dry pavement, and I hope that I never have to return to the Hyundai dealer for anything! I bought TWO rear wheel speed sensors from Amazon for $20 and change after tax, with free delivery. As i recall, the dealer was charging almost $200 for one. A mechanically inclined teenager with the help of one of several youtube instructional videos will replace the bad part for $15 if I choose to let him. If I had plugged in my own code reader, I would have saved over $200, but the several extra hours waiting are lost forever. If I didn't remember what the diagnosis result was, I would have received nothing at all for my $238+ payment. I also had to reset the car's clock myself after leaving the dealership. Radio presets are gone, too, I presume. Recall work has to be done by a dealer, but you can probably be ripped off for less by a more local shop for anything else. More
