I made an appointment at Hyundai of Metairie for 10:45 on Friday, Oct. 9, 2020 to get my oil changed, tires rotated and to have an ABS light looked at (dashboard alert). I asked how long things would take and was told about an hour for the basics, but it would be hard to say on the service light, but they could let me know as soon as they checked it. I said that would work, I’ll wait for the oil change and tires and if it will be a long time for something else, I’d probably need to schedule another time. I arrive at about 10:35 to drop the car and Patrick Dehnel tells me that, doe to COVID, I can’t wait while they do the work. Apparently their waiting area is closed. This makes sense and all, but if they had told me in advance, I would have arranged a ride. I was very frustrated by this and told him that the woman I talked to neglected to mention that to me despite me asking about the wait. He belligerently told me that I didn’t hear that from him so I’m out of luck. They have a shuttle which will bring me where I need to go (which still had three other pick-ups ahead of me). When he came back hard at me without even a hint of an apology, I told him straight out not to be angry at me, I’m the one who has been put in a bad position. I will fully admit, I confronted him on it and told him that every experience I’ve had with Hyundai of Metairie Service has been a nightmare for me. Also to be clear, I didn’t raise my voice and I didn’t curse or name call or anything like that. Regardless, I left, and walked the neighborhood and found a place to eat lunch. And then I learned my lesson – do not confront the service manager when he has your car in his control. No word from Hyundai at all on my car, so I called at 12:30. My friend Patrick told me that my car is going in right then and he’d let me know what’s happening. By 1:30, I had no word back. I called the dealership and asked to speak to a manager. I was connected to Nykesia, I believe. I didn’t get her full name or spelling, but she said she was the manager. I told her that I expect because I questioned the service manager, my car was not being held hostage. Almost three hours for an oil change and tire rotation. She said that sometimes they get a lot of walk-ins on Fridays – feeling like I was in a Seinfeld episode, I asked if there was any reason to make an appointment? If I have an appointment at 10:45, but walk-ins are taken care of before me, the appointment doesn’t really make sense. Regardless, she said she’d check on my car. No word back from anyone. So at 2 p.m., I called again, reached Patrick and told him well played on proving his point that he has full control in the situation. However, I have other things that I NEED to get done so I need my car back now, whether the service is done or not. Miraculously, Patrick said, “We’re just finishing it up right now!” I told him not to bother with any diagnostics because there is no way I’m paying the fee for that and definitely no way I would ever get any additional work done with them. When I walked into the service area, Patrick told me the mechanic was washing his hands and would pull the car around. He acted like absolutely nothing out of the ordinary had happened – frighteningly, I’m guessing that’s true. Based on multiple experiences now, I’m pretty sure this is how Hyundai of Metairie treats its customers. For additional info, the only reason I ever use this service is because I purchased the car there in 2016. I’m ready to buy a new car and since I’ve loved my Sonata, I want to buy another Hyundai. However, there is NO way I would ever purchase from Hyundai of Metairie due to the unprofessional service department. This also guarantees I will shop around with other brands of cars. More
I have had problems before with not rotating tires or putting air in tires, This time was very good. Everything was done to perfection. The dealership was clean and sanitized. The customer service was amazing, informative, and quick with the items needed for my car.
