My experience with dealer shop service departments has been mixed. The personnel in the department were great after I got their attention. But when it came to the work I actually need done the price q been mixed. The personnel in the department were great after I got their attention. But when it came to the work I actually need done the price quote was outrageous. Example. The replacement for a brake light switch under the dash was $609. I actually bought the switch my self for $25. It took me less than 45 minutes to reach under the dash take one bolt out and disconnect the switch. Replace with new one. Then I was quoted $1100 to change the radiator hoses thermostat and refill with coolant. I bought the items to do this job for $155. I would like to have the dealerships do my work for me. I have been doing my own work for fifty years. Yes I am lucky enough to do the job. I feel sorry for the vehicle owners that just don’t have the skill and have to pay these prices. I hope the dealership’s can sleep at night. I sure would not be able too. More
