Bait and switch? So my situation I admit was unique but a day later I still have a bad taste in my mouth so I don’t think i’m overreacting. So my Acura MDX is a Canadi So my situation I admit was unique but a day later I still have a bad taste in my mouth so I don’t think i’m overreacting. So my Acura MDX is a Canadian model and it was having transmission issues. Took it to Westwood and the service guy says that it’s $150 to diagnose it but if you let them fix it that goes to the cost of the repair. I got there at about 10:15. At 11:30 or so the device guys comes to tell me that it needs a flush and software update and walks me through how both need to happen. He estimates the job at $450. Around 12:15 he comes to tell me that it’s all done. I pay the cashier and then wait for the car to get washed and vacuumed. While i’m waiting something says look at the receipt more carefully. Now although written initially is the recommendation for both flush and software update, at the end there is a notation that says the update wasn’t done because the model is a Canadian model and there might be issues with an American software update. I ask the service guy about this, he goes back and confirms that the update wasn’t done but explains that the mechanic hadn’t Let him know. I ask why the bill was for the same amount as originally estimated if the update wasn’t done. He says that the update takes no time to do. BTW the labor on the flush job was essentially for two hours of work. Here are the problems though upon reflection on what happened: 1) it’s kinda shady to say you’re going to do something, then not do it and not mention it to the customer. 2) it’s kinda crappy to estimate a job consisting of two activities for a price, only do one of those jobs and charge the same price, especially after you’ve convinced the customer that he needs both activities to properly address the problem. 3) though the car was at the dealer for two hours of service, my flush took 45 minutes. I was surprised when the service guy came back so quickly to say it was done because based on an earlier conversation, I had been worried I wouldn’t get it back by 1:30. If the flush took even an hour then since I let them diagnose and fix the problem, I shouldn’t get charged for the 2 hours the car was there. So when my wife asked me if the car was fixed later that day I found myself saying, it is today but I don’t know for how long it will be and she could tell I wasn’t very happy about the experience. May 30 Service review, email exchanges and response The prime Acura dealership promised on May 30 to address my concern about over charging and discourteous service provided. While I appreciate the deal The prime Acura dealership promised on May 30 to address my concern about over charging and discourteous service provided. While I appreciate the dealership reaching out to me to sort it out, I am sorry to state that they missed the whole point and wasted more than a month of time in email exchanges! This issue is about principle where a customer should not be charged more than what an insurance company decides as a fair pricing for a service. For the discourteous service I have received and over charge for the service rendered, all that I wanted to do is throw light on Prime Acura's practices and get the over charge reimbursed. Since I do not see that happening, I wish Prime Acura and other customers of Prime Acura the very best! I do not want to be wasting my time or dealership's on this issue. Its a pity that Prime Acura refuses to learn from its mistakes! The dealership have lost me as a customer and if things don't improve it will loose others too. More
