Be careful if you’re thinking about buying here. Unless you want a car that lasts five minutes (3 months) and costs you over $5,000 in repairs. Jimmy Brown’s shop had a good reputation for years, but after my recent experience, I can no longer recommend them to anyone. I took my older vehicle in for servicing, only to be told the motor was no good. The staff was seemingly accommodating as I began the search for another vehicle. Convenience and displaced distrust sparked my interest in J&L AUTO (Jimmy Brown’s lot) next door to the old Jimmy Brown building on Highway 155. I asked if the vehicle I was interested in was inspected pre-purchase. I was told that it was, and I received the CarFax reports, but no details about what the “Jimmy Brown” inspection actually included. The fourplay: I was not too taken aback when I was told the brakes were “at 10 and 15 %”….so new brakes were required…That was an early but expected maintenance expense of 300 dollars, paid to yours truly, Jimmy Brown. After that bit of fourplay, I guess I should have felt the undesired lubrication being applied as the screwing process began. When the vehicle dies in mid-morning traffic on Highway 155 South, less than a week later. The owner kindly suggested I bring it back to be looked over. A day or so later, she calls and says the vehicle is ready for pickup, and the stallout was due to a loose hose. (Relief, right…no) Uh, ok. I pick the vehicle up, and within the month, it’s smoking and stalling out. I returned it to Jimmy Brown on a Friday morning, for someone to forget to call and let me know they’d have it over the weekend. When I finally got in contact with management on Monday, I was informed that the problem was, in fact, an engine ring. When I asked about the vehicle pre-inspection again, it turns out the so-called 'inspection' from Jimmy Brown/ J&L only involved checking for visible oil leaks and not much else—nothing about the engine’s condition, timing issues, or other critical components. I purchased the warranty, but Jimmy Brown failed to provide adequate documentation to the warranty service provider, which forced me to have the vehicle towed to another automotive repair shop. Finally, get a diagnosis from a reputable auto repair shop indicating a timing issue that was never addressed, and since the teardown, I've been informed that the engine has a crack. Now, on top of a monthly car note, hundreds in Uber fees, I also have a $5000 auto repair bill to pay if I am going to have reliable transportation and not destroy my credit by defaulting on the loan. I know we are in a day and time where honesty and clear communication are not celebrated. I genuinely believed Jimmy Brown and J & L were some of those folks who would at least have a minimum product standard. I guess they have subscribed to the new general rule of taking advantage of people by practicing poor and borderline outright, dishonest business ethics. In hindsight, I wonder if the motor in the other car was, in fact, trash or not. Morale of the Story: Take your hard-earned cash elsewhere, unless you’re just into rebuilds!!! More

This is one dealership that really cares about the quality of vehicle they sell and they care about their customers too. We will never shop anywhere else when we need another used car. We asked a knowledgeable friend which dealerships he would recommend and J&L was the only one. We can also say now that J&L Auto Sales is the only used car dealership we'll ever use. More
Worst experience ever. DO NOT go to this place. My daughter saved her hard earned money as a 19 yr old working and going to school and was so excited to buy her first car. DO NOT go to this place. My daughter saved her hard earned money as a 19 yr old working and going to school and was so excited to buy her first car. I co-signed for her. First of all they took HOURS to get financing, right up to closing which I think was purposely done so they could rush us through signing. I noticed there was an “optional” warranty that they didn’t bother telling us was optional, so when I asked about it she said “oh yes, it’s optional but TRUST ME you want to take it because it will give you peace of mind that if anything happens AT ALL under the hood it will be covered and you won’t be without a car!” Of course being rushed, no time to read the 5 pages of fine print. She said “I bought it and thank goodness I did cause my engine blew up and it was all covered”. Then SWORE that it’s a very good reliable warranty. So we signed it. Within 3 days the car had ALL engine lights on. My daughter called and they said to bring it in and they would see what was going on; she did: they looked at it and told her everything was taken care of. She picked it up, lights were off, car seemed fine. A week or 2 later lights on again. She called again. They said bring it again. She did. This time they changed out the water pump: said that should fix it. Also said they topped off all fluids etc. couple weeks later light came on again and car acted funny so my daughter pulled right back in driveway and called them AGAIN. My husband raised the hood and the belt was shredded and oil everywhere. They told us to call warranty people. We did they said take it to dealership. Long story short, because the belt was shredded they BLAMED my daughter because it was a belt., and wouldn’t cover it: she had this car less than 2 months, took it back twice for repairs, was never told to call warranty before: come to find out the “shop” they had fixing it for her was owned by people in their family. They removed this belt when fixing the water pump so obviously put it on wrong. Took to a second guy for 2nd opinion and he stated the car had been driven without oil for a long time (before my daughter bought it) and there had been some work in it that indicated it had engine issues and a huge oil leak before she bought it. The car never overheated, that guage never moved, the lights just came on. My husband watching her cry her eyes out because she did everything she was told, didn’t drive it when lights came on and took it to them twice and now had a blown up engine, put a bad review and got a response from the owner to call the office: we called and called and FINALLY got a response: she said they felt so bad and my daughter didn’t need to worry cause they KNEW the warranty should cover because 4 different mechanics agreed a belt doesn’t shred like that unless the engine caused it belts usually “break”. Also I they took the belt off while fixing the water pump so if it was bad they should told her so we could change it!! It wasn’t bad. The engine was and it was all a charade to hide that. Anyway they got my daughters hopes up saying they would find a way to help her: but NEVER DID: had to call a million times again then they finally got back and said the owner refused to help her because she bought the car AS IS. So my daughter and my credit both are ruined because we aren’t making a payment on a car that doesn’t run, and she’s still in tears everytime she thinks about it more so because she trusted these people and feels “stupid” like she did something wrong. If you go here after this review, why? But if you do do NOT let them help you with the 3rd party looking at it: they use family who helps them screw you over. More

Amazing customer service. I live in Nacogdoches, Texas and was hit by a man that ran a red light on 11/24/2020. It totaled my Hyundai Santa Fe, so I immediately began looking for a new car. For 2 weeks I and was hit by a man that ran a red light on 11/24/2020. It totaled my Hyundai Santa Fe, so I immediately began looking for a new car. For 2 weeks I have been lied to, hustled, manipulated, and fed BS until I was just discouraged, depressed, and beat down... Car shopping was becoming the worst experience ever. Then I spoke to Mrs. Christy Walker at J & L Auto Sales. I told her what happened, what I needed in a vehicle, and what I could afford. She was very honest and straight with me. She had 2 options that fit me and did not try to sell me something I could not afford. She worked the numbers with Capital 1 Auto multiple times until I left with an affordable note and a great 50,000 additional mileage warranty on a low mileage, 2017 Dodge Journey, which was my #1 that I was looking for. The Kia Sorento was my #2 and another Hyundai Sant Fe was my #3. What has been a very upsetting and stressful moment in my year has ended on a very blessed note. I highly recommend this auto dealership to any car buyer and I want Mrs. Christy to know that she has been a huge blessing to my family. More
