Dear Mr Mimmick, I understand that you "feel" that you were somehow ripped off by our dealership in regard to your 1993 Corvette. You are entitled to your opinion. However, we believe that the ENTIRE story needs to be told so that anyone reading can decide for themselves whether we went above and beyond what any other repair shop would have done. In gact, the BBB believes we acted in a professional manner. They dismissed your complaint on the grounds that it had no merit. Here is how the transaction went: We originally allowed Mr Minnick to speak to one of our techs because he wanted to try to fix his car by himself. Our tech actually lent this man some tools as well as free advice. When the customer failed on his own, he towed the car to us. Our tech immediately diagnosed that the distributor on the car was not providing spark. This customer advised us that he had installed an aftermarket distributor several months back and it was still under warranty. We allowed him to bring in his own aftermarket distributor (HUGE mistake on our part!) to repair the vehicle. The part he brought in was no good. We put a good GM distributor of ours in the car to show the customer and the vehicle ran. The customer then brought a second distributor in and that cured the spark problem and the vehicle ran, but with no power. With the vehicle now running, we were able to diagnose that the fuel pump was not putting out enough fuel pressure. It turned out that the customer, while trying to repair the vehicle, put in the wrong fuel pump (he later admitted this to us) which caused this problem. When advised of this, the customer became upset and towed the vehicle somewhere else to have the correct fuel pump installed. The customer was advised all along the way of the charges. We never moved forward unless we had his approval. Our technician spent far more time on this vehicle than we billed this customer for. We did not charge him for an ignition coil and an ignition module we installed while trying to determine why he did not have spark. We did not charge him for any of the time it took to remove the distributor off of the donor vehicle and install on his vehicle. We did this only to reinforce our original diagnosis and to prove to the customer that the distributor was indeed bad. The only parts we charged him for were the coolant that was used and the gaskets needed to install the distributor. We were always up front with this customer and his issues with us were a direct result of him using sub-standard aftermarket parts when he originally tried to repair his vehicle. His other big problem was him self- installing the wrong fuel pump on his 1993 Corvette. We have a policy of not using these after market parts for this reason. He insists we misdiagnosed his problem when in fact, we were 100% correct. He is upset because he had to pay for repairs that were a result of previous failed repairs that were done elsewhere. If the original repair had been done here, with OEM parts, it would have been covered under our warranty and would not have cost this customer anything. ZERO! If the customer is looking for retribution, he should be going after the company that sold him defective parts, not Jerry Haggerty Chevrolet. The customer filed a claim with the Better Business Bureau and they determined the customer did not warrant retribution and no further action was required on our part.
