They put the wrong Transmision fluid in my Montego CVT I've used this dealer to do all the service work for 9 years and had fairly results until now. I took my 2005 Mercury Montego Premier AWD in for a ro I've used this dealer to do all the service work for 9 years and had fairly results until now. I took my 2005 Mercury Montego Premier AWD in for a routine engine oil/filter change and CVT automatic transmission fluid change and requested a check for any engine oil leaks. I had an on-line scheduled appointment for 10 AM on Feb 22, 2018 (Thursday). When I arrived on time, no one seemed to know anything about it or what work I wanted done and the Service writer seemed to not know much about CVT requirements. I called around 4 PM that afternoon to see if my car was ready, and after some delay was told they had been very busy that day and had just recently finished looking for the engine oil leak issue and would not work on my car until tomorrow (Friday). I said OK, some times things don't go as planned. By around 3 PM, Friday afternoon, I call them to get status and I was told car not ready. A little later, I receive a call from the Service Manager who informs me that the mechanic/technician put the wrong type ATF type fluid (red color) instead of the correct special CTV synthetic (clear color) fluid in my transmission. He stated they did not have any of the Ford specified CVT fluid on hand and a shipment would arrive tomorrow (Saturday). He stated that they would drain and refill my CVT transmission with the correct fluid several times to decontaminate it. However, according to the Mercury Manual it states," do not put any type fluid except the correct ford CVT fluid or it will permanently damage this transmission." This really bothered me a lot, because I know there is no way they can totally decontaminate this mistake. I have always had all required maintenance work done, and the car looks and runs like new, and now because of a careless mechanic, Lakeland Ford may have a destroyed the transmission! IT MAY NOT FAIL RIGHT AWAY BUT IT WILL MOST LIKELY NOT LAST A LONG AS IT SHOULD ! On Saturday around 2 PM the Service Manager calls and says my car is ready and since they did not start the engine with the wrong oil in the transmission, and since he pressure drained and filled the transmission twice with the correct CVT synthetic oil they got all the wrong oil out. He drove it and stated it worked and shifted ok. I reluctantly took my car, but had him state on the work order that they filled the CVT with ATF oil and did as he stated above. Several weeks later, I now notice clear oil spots on the floor where the transmission is above on left side of engine bay. The transmission never leaked oil before this mistake was made by Lakeland Ford. Car does have a minor engine oil leak which they found under this work order that is coming from the valve cover gaskets and pan gaskets with light brown oil drips that are on the right side of the engine bay. I did some on-line research and found the wrong fluid, even if replaced will damage the transmission and shorten its life. Also, pressure draining is not recommended either. Since Lakeland Ford did both things to my car's transmission--its a ticking time bomb for mechanical failure. The issue now is will they, Lakeland Ford or Ford Motor Company, replace it when it does fail or say its not their fault because its 12 years old with 97,000 mile. I am taking it back to find out, since now it is leaking CVT oil. More
