I recently purchased a vehicle from McGrath Volvo Cars Barrington, and unfortunately, my experience was far below expectations, especially for what I assumed would be a higher-standard, premium dealership Barrington, and unfortunately, my experience was far below expectations, especially for what I assumed would be a higher-standard, premium dealership. The most concerning part of my experience was the lack of transparency and clarity around financing. I was enrolled in a third-party payment service during the process without a clear explanation of how it worked. Key details were not properly disclosed including the fact that it was a third-party service and not at all a part of Volvo Financial. I was also told by Pritesh, finance manager, that this setup would help reduce the term of my loan, which turned out to be misleading. Instead, it introduced additional fees and unnecessary complexity. More concerning, this third-party service failed to properly process my payment on time, which has now put me at risk of late fees with my lender. What was presented as a benefit has instead created financial risk, confusion, and significant time spent trying to resolve the issue on my own. When I reached out for assistance and asking some basic questions Pritesh didn't even bother responding to my email, but rather passed me along to the third-party customer service without even letting me know he was going to do that. Overall, very unprofessional. The vehicle delivery experience was also disappointing. There was no walkthrough of the car’s features. No explanation of basics like windshield wipers, driver assistance settings (Co-Pilot), or even guidance on setting up the Volvo app. In previous dealership experiences, this has always been a standard courtesy. Additionally, the condition of the vehicle did not meet expectations: The car was not properly cleaned, and I noticed interior stains the same day when arriving home. There were missing parts that were not disclosed at the time of purchase. I was told the tires were at ~50%, but a recent inspection showed closer to ~35% and that that same inspection identified additional issues that were not disclosed. Throughout the process, I was reassured that the vehicle had been inspected by certified Volvo technicians. Given the number of issues later identified, this raises concerns about how thorough that inspection actually was and the way that the technicians work. As this was my first premium car purchase, I expected a higher standard in both the vehicle and the overall experience. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Overall, this process created unnecessary stress, financial risk, and extra work on my end. I would strongly encourage others to carefully review all terms, and independently verify all information before proceeding. Though, if you can avoid this dealership at all, I would recommend that more. More
