My daughters and I went to McGrath Volvo to get into a Volvo XC90. All three of us were greeted by Franz Mausser and proceeded to select the right vehicle for our entire family. We had an appointment scheduled with Julio Zamudio at 10:30 12-22-25. We walked in not really expecting to walk out a few hours later with a new XC60 but with the great help of Julio, and Pritesh Chaudha 10:30 12-22-25. This is our fourth Volvo with McGrath and I must say that this was the first time I actually felt 100\% satisfied with the purchase. From beginning to end, they were exceptional. After 20 years of driving a Volvo XC 90, I downsized and am the proud owner of a new XC40. I am local and chose McGrath because of its reputation and convenience. I was working a deal to buy a used Lexus SUV out of state. I was ready to pay not only full price, but also the crazy $2,998 additional charge for the so-called ceramic coating they add as an accessory state. I was waiting on the docs from finance and, after spending half a day on this, was told they sold the vehicle to another person. Just horrible. I guess they train all car dealers the same way. I wouldn't trust this group any further than I could throw them. By the way - if you are looking at buying a Volvo (new or used) - I would tell you to check the reliability ratings on the brand before you do or buy 2 of them - one to drive and one for the shop. I purchased a vehicle from McGrath Volvo in Barrington IL on 10/10/2025 and my experience appeared to be great in the moment but when I got home and reviewed the paperwork for the loan, I saw that I was char on 10/10/2025 and my experience appeared to be great in the moment but when I got home and reviewed the paperwork for the loan, I saw that I was charged $2737 for “accessory’s” that were sold to me by the finance manager Pritesh Chaudhary. Pritesh used the term “free” during the financing process and had me believing that -key replacement -theft protection -interior and exterior protection We’re all “on the house”. Now I know that nothing in this world is “free”, but when I questioned him in the moment I was told “don’t worry, I’ve got it covered” and so when I saw these charges on my finance agreement it surely was upset and surprised. I called Pritesh to explain my frustration and he appeared somewhat apologetic but I was told “I added those to your benefit.” I explained that I did not want those things and I wanted them removed immediately. He told me that he has to talk to someone else about the situation and that he would reach back out. About 35 minutes later I received a call from the sales manager Latif K. He was not nearly as sympathetic about my situation and actually was very argumentative instead. So I let him know that I would get an attorney involved if he could not fix this for me. He then told me that he could remove the Key replacement and theft protection, but the interior and exterior coverage is already applied to the car before I make the purchase so they can not remove that one- which cost $1987 alone. I of course was not happy with this and so I told him I would go for the attorney then with the video footage that was recorded in the financing room and I’d be sure to leave a review on Google too and he argued with me about “black mail”. He then told me he would watch the video footage and call me back. About 30 minutes later I received a call from Din- another financing manager. He told me that he would like to correct these things on “simple” terms and i could come back to have it done. I drove the 2 hours back to have the corrections made with Din and I was told that if he removed all 3 of those sales that my GAP insurance would go up from $999 to $1740. He stated that I only received the gap for $999 because it was “bundled” with another deal. I was told that if I remove the interior and exterior coverages for $750 (instead of the $1987) I would be paying $1740 “anyway” for the gap insurance. I stood my ground and continued to argue as I didn’t think this was fair. In the end he dropped the interior and exterior coverage down to $500 with a lot of pushing. I give 2 stars for the effort in trying to make it right, but I cannot give any extra stars as I had to jump through many hoops and still didn’t leave 100% satisfied- especially considering I was told that Pritesh “likely unintentionally used words that he should not have used. If anyone would like to buy from this dealer, I strongly encourage you to read though the “purchase” agreement very closely as you’re likely being sold things that you will probably never even use- including a paint protector that is APPLIED BEFORE you even purchase it and not included in your Sale price. More
