This particular customer that listed his name as anonymous, feels that we should give him an additional $1000 for his vehicle after the sale and delivery of his new vehicle. The day of delivery the customer called our sale person who intern came and got his manager because he felt uncomfortable with the conversation with the customer, and wanted someone of authority present and part of the conference call. The manager and the sales person went over every aspect of the transaction. Covering the sale price which was well below invoice and the re-negotiated trade price with the money back to the customer to ensure that there were no issues. The customer came and took delivery, signed a document that that stated that we the dealer delivered the car completely and owe him nothing. The manager received a call from the customer post-delivery with the threat of "if you don’t give me another $1000 I will make it my business to trash you publicly a report you to the BBB etc.” This customer lodged a complaint with the manufacturer in writing stating that he did not want the $1000 but would like them to look at us as a dealer to make sure that our business practices meet their expectation. After 50 years of delivering Mercedes-Benz's to thousands of customers we would have been happy to discuss anything with this customer short of being threatened/ blackmailed into giving him an additional $1000. Unhappy customers do not help us and our business is to exceed expectations. There are rare cases where a business must put their principals of right and wrong ahead of giving in to threats.

Mercedes-Benz of Goldens Bridge responded

This customer decided to surrender their vehicle to MBUSA. Their lease contract was with Mercedes Benz Financial Services. The turn in fee is part of a contract that everyone is aware of with every lease from all banks and captive manufacture lenders. It is not something that we as a dealer can negotiate or refund. Simply if we refunded one turn in fee we legally would be liable to refund every turn in fee for any of our customer that had paid it to MBFS for seven years. The fairness act states that whatever we do for one customer must apply to all customers. WE feel bad for this situation but the issue is truly between the customer’s family and the leasing bank.
