Went to purchase a certified pre-owned 2018 Jeep Compass. I looked at the engine, saw several nuts around the alternator had marks. I asked the salesperson if the alternator or water pump had been changed, h I looked at the engine, saw several nuts around the alternator had marks. I asked the salesperson if the alternator or water pump had been changed, he said he didn’t know. Later looked at the car fax report. It said the long block had been replaced five months before. I again asked the sales person what a ‘long block is? He said he didn’t know but would find out. I googled long block - turned out it is a complete new engine. So the engine was replaced in that vehicle after 14K miles and the new engine had 3K miles on it. This information I think the salesperson should have known about. Thank good for the car fax report. The cost for the car was 21K - We ended up buying a new one instead for 27K. The people were friendly - BUT BUYER BEWARE - also, be ready for the hard sell on the KARR Security System, gap Insurance and extended warranty - if you do buy. More
