Best buying experience I have ever had was with sales advisor Michael Kay and the Business Manager Gayle Martin. This was a big deal for me to switch to Volvo, I have owned or leased 4 Cadillacs over the advisor Michael Kay and the Business Manager Gayle Martin. This was a big deal for me to switch to Volvo, I have owned or leased 4 Cadillacs over the past 10 years and thought I was going to be a diehard Cadillac customer for life. Not one of those 4 Cadillac dealership experiences compares to the Portland Volvo experience. 1), the brand new dealership is a beautiful expression of Scandinavian modernism, which is very much my aesthetic, easy to navigate and clean, 2), Michael knows the vehicles thoroughly (not something I can say at GM dealerships), 3) Michael was able to juggle multiple clients at the same time gracefully (since we were there for quite a long time due to my insurance & registration) 4) I came up from Boston for a very specific vehicle with a very specific set of option packages that I couldn't find for over 1000 miles, and he fully respected that I knew which vehicle I wanted and did not try to steer me to anything else (can’t say the same for GM) 5) The offer they gave me was entirely fair and a good deal, even though I did not qualify for some of their current discount programs, I did not feel like I needed to play the old school negotiation game 6) Gayle was the best business manager, she was honest, communicated clearly, extremely patient and quick with helping walk through the process of purchasing my vehicle even though I lived in Massachusetts and the dealership was in Maine. It took several phone calls to my insurance company in order to get the information setup for a Massachusetts registration to finalize the purchase. 7) Gayle could sense that we were extremely hungry, since we were there over the lunch hour, and the staff had ordered pizza, she gave us 4 slices to hold us over - never had a dealership really think about my wellbeing like that 8) the specific vehicle that I wanted to test drive was already cleaned and pulled up to the front entrance for me when I arrived for my test drive appointment, no waiting around 9) I was able to take the car home the same day, and Michael got us setup with Volvo On Call app seamlessly 10) I had questions about tires for service advisor Joel Hall while I was there, and loved talking to him about his experience with his own Volvo, such a friendly guy who went out of his way to answer my question, wish I lived in Portland so I could bring it in for service. I had been to another dealership, and felt somewhat pressured and intimidated by the salesmen, and they made it extremely difficult for me to leave when I told them I wasn't ready to make a decision that day. I was happy to return to Portland volvo and work with Michael, because when I had test driven the car I ended up buying that prior weekend, but wasn't ready to commit, I felt no unwanted pressure from him. He was gentle, and very respectful towards me and my shopping process. This initial experience of test driving and working with him, ultimately led me to return to Portland Volvo and purchase the car. I would highly recommend Portland Volvo, and Michael as a salesman. My wife and I purchased a new XC 60 T6 last week from Portland Volvo. The day after the purchase we were hit with a snow storm. As always, I cleaned the snow off of the entire car to get it ready to trav Portland Volvo. The day after the purchase we were hit with a snow storm. As always, I cleaned the snow off of the entire car to get it ready to travel 15 minutes to a local restaurant to pick up food. When I turned into the restaurant the cars wipers stoped working. Upon getting out of the car, I could hear a motorized sound making 3 consecutive noises. I got back into the car and switched the wiper control up and down to see if it would help remedy the situation. After doing this 3 times, I could tell there was a mechanical defect. I drove back home without the use of the wipers in extremely treacherous winter conditions. The visibility was horrific as the wipers were inoperable. I made an appointment the next day to have the wipers looked at. I was told by 2 service representatives and the sales representative that I had caused the issue by uses excessive force. I find this to be absolutely unacceptable. I have driven in snow storms for over 20 years and had a 2020 XC 40 for the past year and a half and have never ran into any issues with not removing snow in the appropriate way in order to allow the wipers to move with ease. My family has done business with Portland Volvo for over 20 years and this has left a very bad impression. Blaming the customer for something they did not do is unacceptable. There was an obvious defect in the car and the dealership was insisting that this happened because I did not remove snow from the windshield. This has been a very disheartening experience and I can only hope that other customers are not treated in this fashion. It has painted a very negative picture of the dealership. More

He was the best product specialist and salesperson we had interacted with after many months of searching for the right car. He took us through all the vehicle’s features, gave us pointers and tips, and told us the best routes to take a test drive. When we returned and were interested in the vehicle, he worked with us to find the right financing options to meet our needs. He answered every question we had (and we had a lot since this was our first-ever Volvo) and was extremely patient. It was clear that he had extensive knowledge of the vehicle he was selling and it gave us a lot of confidence. But it didn’t stop there. We realized we wouldn’t be able to take the car off the lot that day, but we lived 2 hours away. Without skipping a beat, Michael offered to drive the car to us and drive our trade in back to the dealership. And he did just that, showing up with a smile on his face and everything in order. In 20 minutes, everything was signed, sealed, and delivered. It was truly seamless and Michael was incredibly helpful the whole way. I can’t say enough about how great it was to work with Michael and the whole team. I would highly recommend anyone who is looking for a Volvo to go visit Michael. He is excellent at what he does. Very comfortable to talk to and very accommodating same as the salesman (retired) back 2007. Great customer service - I needed a manual for dashboard operation and within 10 days I received the manual in the mail. Excellent! More
