Brought in my 2015 Cadillac SRX, the lift gate would no longer open. After much research on several GM sites, it appeared to be a very common problem on 2010 - 2015 models. A design flaw. The lift gate con longer open. After much research on several GM sites, it appeared to be a very common problem on 2010 - 2015 models. A design flaw. The lift gate control module is snapped into a place that is prone to getting wet. Thus causing its failure. Purchased a new lift gate control module and installed it, only to learn that it also now had to be programmed. Of course this can only be done by a GM service technician or someone with a specific GM programming tool. Robbins Chevrolet said they could do it for a programming charge of $165. Took it in for the programming at 7:45 am, said it could take two to three hours. At 5:30 pm the service advisor said he still hadn’t heard from technician. The next morning they called and said the programming didn’t work, it was an after market part not a genuine GM part, that was their best guess as to why the programming wouldn’t work. So for $165 I could pick the car up or for $150 more they could do a diagnostic and determine the issue. At 2:00 pm they called and said their diagnostic had determined I needed a new lift gate control module. The same part I had researched, purchased, installed and brought in for programming. So I was able to pay Robbins Chevrolet $315 for my vehicle and pick it up as I had brought it in. They could install a new lift gate control module and it would be close to $750 - $1,000 for the repair. I guess that’s where the phrase “money for nothing” comes from. More
