My 2019 Sonata has been eating oil for several months. I did an "oil consumption study" with this dealer, which consisted of having an oil change, then driving it 1,000 miles and then return for a check I did an "oil consumption study" with this dealer, which consisted of having an oil change, then driving it 1,000 miles and then return for a check of the dipstick. I was told the dipstick reading was "iffy" so we did another 1,000 and returned. I went back and was told the dipstick reading was indeed low, so they had me drive another 1,000 and if it was low upon this cycle, they would submit paperwork with Hyundai to have the engine replaced. I went back after the last 1,000 mile cycle and the service rep (Rich) did a reading and told me yes, the reading was low enough to warrant submitting paperwork for a new engine. I had to leave the car there overnight, as no loaner cars were available. Rich told me that tomorrow, we have 5 or 6 coming back, so we'll have one then as my car wouldn't be available for several weeks. Mind you, my car is still under warranty for this particular issue to be fixed. I came back the next day to pick up the loaner, and Chris (another service rep) flat out said, "I don't have any." I explained what I was promised, by Rich the previous day, and he just shrugged his shoulders. After all of these "studies" and returns to the dealer, I was very frustrated. I asked what did he think I was supposed to do while my car was going to be worked on for weeks, and suddenly another guy comes out for the office and tells me, "Oh. The dipstick was misread yesterday, and when the technician checked it today, the oil level was fine." HOW DOES MY ENGINE GO FROM NEEDING TO BE REPLACED TO "FINE" IN THE MATTER OF 24 HOURS? AND TO TOP IT OFF, THEY HAD NO SOLUTION FOR WHY MY CAR WAS CONSUMING TOO MUCH OIL! I bought the car 2 years old, and the basically sold me a lemon. It is has been documented that this as well as other certain models have been having issues with oil consumption and cylinders not firing correctly (an issue I also had fixed). I had 2 other Hyundai cars (not purchased here) that overall performed to satisfaction. Now I am a bit leery of Hyundai, and I am going to contact Jeff Rosen directly about this matter. The employees are knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. They fixed a recall on our vehicle, which we didn't even know we had.
