My first car, but get your own insurance policy Having just gotten my driver's license, I wanted to get my first car. After shopping around, first considering new cars but were priced outside my bu Having just gotten my driver's license, I wanted to get my first car. After shopping around, first considering new cars but were priced outside my budget. So I looked into used cars and found a really good deal. The salesman very quickly found things that met my few needs, even some bonuses that I would've liked but was willing to sacrifice. Right away, there was one car out of 4 possible that met my needs and I checked out every single one. I settled on one that was an incredible deal, having a really good price for something so close to new that it was well within my budget. It took rather long to get the auto loan approved though. After a lot of paperwork (which I expected), getting insurance was next. The dealer was going with probably the absolute most expensive insurance policies around. I did plenty of research online once I got home and found a policy through Progressive that was 1/3 the price that I was about to get with the dealer and still met the minimum requirements by law plus a little extra to go with it, and it's a price I was expecting. Since I needed insurance to drive off the lot, I stuck with it at first. The following day, I canceled it once I got the better insurance policy. When I was looking into the additional coverage options, like extended warranties, Dawn (I forgot her last name) was very nice and gave me $200 off of one of the coverage options. Overall, my experience was decent, but the situation with the insurance could really use improvement. There are vastly cheaper policies around. Just be sure to cancel the policy without signing any paperwork for it and get your own insurance policy as soon as you can and avoid what the dealership is trying to use. More
